About the Organization
CODE2040 is a nonprofit organization that creates pathways to educational, professional, and entrepreneurial success in technology for underrepresented minorities with a specific focus on Blacks and Latino/as. CODE2040 aims to close the achievement, skills, and wealth gaps in the United States. About the Role: Director, Operations
We’re seeking an exceptionally dynamic and personable individual to take on the key leadership role of Director, Operations. You will hit the ground running to quickly help us to create and refine systems and processes; grow, nurture, and support our team; and work closely with the COO to become a key problem solver for the organization.
The Director, Operations will own the HR function in the organization. As such, you’ll prioritize the build out of our talent recruitment, onboarding, and professional development systems. You will ensure compliance to HR best practices. Additionally, you’ll work with the team on culture development and our core values. You will analyze our current practices and will lead strategic steps to enhance them. Creative problem solving, a vision of high-level strategy, and a willingness to find answers will allow you to succeed in this role.
As Director, Operations, you will be a key partner of the COO - working to ensure that all other teams (programs, development and communications, leadership, etc.) have the tools needed to do their work. You will interact with all teams, asking questions, and proposing creative solutions that drive the organization forward while stewarding resources wisely. You think outside the box and are not afraid to shape strategy or to try new things.
Your responsibilities will include...

- Auditing our current systems (examples include: working group structure, office norms, goal setting, onboarding and exiting staff, expense reporting, etc.), identifying challenges and areas of opportunity to improve efficiencies and improving them when possible
- Strategically articulating new processes to our team and training them on these processes, ensuring that expectations are aligned

- Cultivating a culture of fun - both formally and informally (everything from informal happy hours to karaoke to crafting our team retreats to bolster involvement, engagement, and empathy)
We’re looking for someone who has...
- 5-10 years of relevant experience. You’re seasoned in systems design and thrive on creative problem solving that results in clear, easily understood processes. Ideally, you’ve thrived in a startup scenario.
- The operations street cred. You’ve ‘been around the block’ and bring experience and knowledge across a variety of non-profit operation disciplines.
- The hustle. You can adapt to changing environments and thrive when things move fast. You’re not afraid to roll-up your sleeves and go the extra mile to get things done.
We’re looking for someone who is...
- A Strategic Decision Maker. You thrive under pressure. This role isn’t for the meek. We want excitement, not reluctance when a big decision needs to be made.
- A Problem Solver. You like when people bring you problems because you know how to listen. You know when/how to coach people to solve their own problems and can step in to creatively problem solve when required.
- An Organized Leader. You strive for efficiency and effectiveness. Building organizational capacity is your bread and butter
- A Passionate Culture Fit . You are 100% values and culture aligned with CODE2040. The mission is personally integral to your beliefs. Moreover, the organization’s values and culture guide you when stewarding resources or when you’re asked to make a tough call on candidates.
- A Clear and Direct Communicator. You enjoy having direct conversations, receiving feedback, and sharing transparently about your decision making process. You excel at developing systems for clear internal communications.
