Hello Friend,
It’s No Kings week — and I know many of you reading this aren’t just planning to show up tomorrow — you’re the ones organizing the events.
You’re pulling permits, making the calls, texting lists, designing the signs, and holding it all together — and it shows.
The energy building right now is real. We’re seeing it in the streets, in organizing, and in recent election results. Huge shoutout to Emily Gregory and her supporters for an extraordinary win — flipping Trump’s home legislative district in Florida. That doesn’t happen without serious, sustained work.
But here’s what’s been sitting with me this week:
Even for those of us doing this every day, we still need space to just be in community.
Last night, I helped organize a No Kings sign-making party — and what stood out wasn’t just the turnout. It was how much people didn’t want it to end. A few even asked if we could do it every week.
That’s the piece we don’t invest in enough — and something we need everywhere |

A Quick Update on the Powerful IDEA Awards |
|
|
Last week, we shared that we’ve pushed back nominations for the Powerful IDEA Awards to give more time for entries — and I want to reinforce that here.
I’ve been seeing so many folks celebrating their Pollie and Reed Awards wins (congrats to all!), but the IDEA Awards are about something different.
They’re about what’s happening after the 2024 elections.
The advocacy. The resistance. The organizing. The democracy work continuing every day.
This is about recognizing not just communications, but the organizations, technology, programs, and, most importantly, the people behind it all.
Over the next few weeks, take a moment to nominate yourself or someone whose work is making a real impact right now. |

Substack, Community News & Events |
|
|
|
I always try to highlight a few Substack posts and resources each week — not just because they’re interesting, but because they help us think more clearly about how we actually build power. There’s a lot of noise — and not enough shared learning.
A great example is below - the headline and image don’t make it obvious but I love to see everything Prentiss Haney is working on — and he is offering up some amazing webinars over the next year. Check them out. Will Robinson shares some important insights as always. I’m always fangirling over Amanda Litman’s work and writing - check out her new post this week.
So I’m always looking for ideas, analysis, and real-world insights that push us forward: what’s working, what’s not, and what we need to do differently if we’re serious about winning and governing.
This week’s reads dig into organizing models, media strategy, and infrastructure—and they’re worth your time. And speaking of what’s working—
A big shoutout to Democrat Emily Gregory, who just defeated a Trump-endorsed Republican in Florida — flipping a state House district in Trump’s own backyard. It’s a powerful reminder that strong candidates and sustained organizing can win anywhere. And in case you’re not counting this makes thirty — that is 30 seats that Democrats have flipped since Trump was elected while Republicans have not flipped any — shout out to the DLCC and other organizations focused on state elections!
I’d also love to make this a more two-way conversation. 👉 I just created a “What are you reading?” channel in Slack — drop in and share what’s shaping your thinking, what you’re learning, and what others should be paying attention to!
Hope you’re all turning out for No Kings tomorrow. We’d love to see your signs!
