For more than 40 years, the members of the network have shared a firm commitment to a model for success—one that embraces tough-minded culture of accountability, and organizing to win measurable results. These results include hundreds of laws, policies, and other changes that have protected consumers, preserved the environment, and otherwise made corporations and government more responsive to the public interest. Over the years, our network has also recruited and trained thousands of people, many of whom have moved up to become leaders of our own network or elsewhere in the social change community.

Job Description:
The Prospect Researcher will identify and research prospective donors for a wide array of public interest campaigns and programs, supporting the fundraising work of the network’s advocates, organizers, executive directors, and development staff.
Specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Identifying potential individual and foundation donors and matching them to current campaigns and projects.
- Researching and preparing profiles on the individual and foundation prospects.
- Assisting in developing new ways to analyze membership data to uncover prospects.
- Working with Public Interest Network fundraisers around the country to determine and implement strategies for cultivation and solicitation.
- Maintaining and enhancing a prospective donor tracking database.
Job Qualifications:
We are looking for skilled candidates with a demonstrated commitment to social change and an appreciation of the importance of political organizing. We’re also looking for candidates who are more motivated by the success of the movement than by individual achievement.
Additionally, top candidates will:
- Have a bachelor’s degree and at least one year of relevant experience, although strong entry level candidates will be considered. Experience in fundraising with a public interest advocacy organization or on political campaigns also is preferred, but not required. Research and /or data analysis experience is a plus. Advanced degrees may count toward a candidate's professional experience.
- Be flexible, embrace new challenges, and have a strong work ethic.
- Be a curious, creative, and tenacious researcher. Also must have outstanding analytical skills and attention to detail, as well as be highly organized and deadline driven.
- Have strong computer skills and be able to learn quickly.
- Have excellent writing and presentation skills.
- Have demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion with sensitive information and in solving problems;
- Be able to work independently, as well as take direction and work as part of a team.
The Prospect Researcher position requires a two-year commitment.
Compensation & Benefits:
Annual compensation for most candidates starts at $28,000 to $30,000 in the first year and $32,000 to $34,000 in the second year, but could be higher commensurate with relevant professional experience and/or advanced degrees. The Public Interest Network also offers a competitive benefits package.
