The Green Group, a voluntary coalition of 36 of the nation’s environmental organizations is seeking an environmentally-savvy, politically-astute, energetic, and organized individual to serve as its Operations Manager. The Operations Manager will provide support to the Chair and CEO members of the Green Group as well as work directly with and support the work of the Partnership Project, which is dedicated to environmental progress by strengthening the collaborative public education and advocacy work of the environmental movement. S/he will report to the Chair of the Green Group and have a matrixed relationship to the Executive Director of The Partnership Project.
Position Overview
The right individual for this role is someone who is:
- Well-versed in environmental politics, including keeping track of the positions of various legislators, coordinating and organizing the response of coalition members to various issues, gathering and disseminating information to members that will drive thoughtful and action-oriented decisions, and ensuring that all partners are informed and engaged in The Green Group’s activities.
- Well-organized, with referenceable experience supporting high-level executive/leaders including:
- managing the organization’s calendar of board meetings and conferences;
- supporting all of the conference/committee logistics including agenda development, speaker preparation and travel arrangements, minutes preparation and dissemination, as well as meeting organization and management.
- An extraordinary project manager. S/he will be expected to serve as the right hand of the Board Chair (rotating annual appointment) to ensure that all projects and initiatives undertaken by The Green Group will be managed to a successful conclusion.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
The Operations Manager is a team builder and facilitator. S/he must possess:
- a professional demeanor at all times especially in high-stress situations,
- tremendous attention to detail,
- the ability to juggle several responsibilities at once,
- the capacity to work cooperatively and productively with many diverse personalities.
S/he will be report to the Chair of The Green Group and be managed in part by the Executive Director of the Partnership Project.
- Coordinate and organize meetings and communicate effectively with members to promote collaboration, negotiation, and problem solving.
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct all logistical and administrative arrangement for meetings/conferences, including travel arrangements, development of agendas, speaker rosters, minutes preparation and dissemination.
- Continually maintain and update materials for dissemination to coalition members including supporting the development of marketing and media materials, campaigns, and opportunities in conjunction with the staff of the member groups.
- Document findings and progress of programs and activities in written quarterly reports to the Board and coalition members.
- Serving as the Green Group’s point of contact for meeting and logistics with decision makers.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Passion for environmental issues a must.
- Demonstrated experience working with a board, coalition, or committee is a must.
- Demonstrated experience with political advocacy and/or campaigns is essential.
- Proven track record in being an army of one -- the ability to manage multiple projects from start to finish with grace and professionalism.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple responsibilities.
- Excellent communication skills -- both written and oral.
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading experience in a business environment.
Proficiency with software and technology including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
