Description
The National Center for Transgender Equality seeks an experienced Development Director to manage and implement the organization's development plan, including grants, major donors, individual donors, corporate sponsors and events. The Development Director will work closely with the management team and Board of Directors to ensure ample funds are generated to support NCTE's mission. The position is designed to expand and diversify NCTE's funding base. Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and manage development plan and all development systems: Oversee, and in most cases, execute all development functions to ensure that the organization has funds to meet its mission
- Develop individual donor base: Collaborate with the communications staff to create and execute a strategy for increasing NCTE's base of individual donors, especially monthly donors, as well as manage direct mail strategies

- Grow the major gifts program: Work with executive director and board to identify prospects, cultivate and solicit major donors
- Maintain good relationships with supporters: Manage relationships with current and prospective donors
- Development of corporate program: Develop a program to responsibly seek appropriate corporate monetary and in-kind donations
- Special events: Oversee large and small fundraising events
- Oversee grants program: Write and submit grant proposals, provide reports to funders and identify new prospects
- Maintain records and data: Manage and track development related data, gift processing, and communications
- Engage Board of Directors: Work with board members on development-related projects and facilitate their fundraising
- Support online fundraising program: Work collaboratively with communications staff to strengthen online fundraising program
Qualifications:
- Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience as a fundraising professional in a nonprofit organization
- Track record of success: Successful track record in donor acquisition and cultivating new funders, and securing major grants and gifts
- Project Leadership: Experience in planning, leading, and managing development
- Creativity and Innovation: Ability to see opportunities and develop new approaches for development
- Self-direction: Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donor relationships and to forge new ones. Ability to be self-sufficient in a small staff environment
- Communications: Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising
- Collaborative Spirit: Ability to work as integral part of a team of hard-working, energetic professionals, taking input from a variety of assertive colleagues
- Coaching: Interest in and ability to coach, support, and advise others in becoming effective fundraisers
- Prioritization: Ability to set and meet goals, prioritize, plan, manage, and complete work on deadlines
- Time Management and Detail Orientation: Excellent organizational and time-management skills, detail-oriented, including ability to manage multiple tasks independently
- Commitment to Social Justice: An understanding of issues affecting transgender people as well as an understanding of racism, classism and other systems of inter-connected oppressions is critical

Salary range for this position is competitive and based in part on the candidate’s experiences and skills.
