Organizational Background:
Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) was started by members of the Newtown, Connecticut community in response to the December 14, 2012 tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, where 20 children and six educators were shot and killed. SHP is comprised of two nonprofit corporations, the 501(c)(3) Sandy Hook Promise Foundation and the 501(c)(4) Sandy Hook Action Fund.  SHP’s sole purpose is to protect children from gun violence by providing and empowering parents and communities with mental wellness and gun safety programs that help identify, intervene and stop at-risk individuals from hurting themselves or others so no other parent experiences the senseless, horrific loss of their child.

Overview:
The Development Director is responsible for delivering SHP’s annual revenue budget.  The Director will develop and implement a development strategy to support annual goals, lead and manage fundraise agencies and volunteer team, generate donor leads, help manage existing donor base and assist in development and implementation of fundraising activities and events.  This position reports to the Executive Director.


Responsibilities:
·         Develop and implement a 3-year development strategy to include corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, events/activities, government grants and major gifts program.

·         Identify new and manage/cultivate existing major donor base to strategically and sustainably increase their support.

·         Develop and implement an annual operating/work plan which deliveries set revenue goals.

·         Lead the prospecting process and development of strategy to grow our current base of funders.

·         Write and manage proposals and agreements for funding opportunities in collaboration with program team and development agencies.

·         Lead and manage the logistics of fundraising events from start to finish.

·         Design and maintain systems and procedures that make Development run effectively.

·         Manage the implementation of a fundraising and prospecting database.

·         Carry out other duties as assigned.


Requirements:
·         5-8 years of Development experience with a proven record of developing, implementing fundraising plans and strategies that met set goals.  Ideal candidate will have a broad national background of raising funds from individuals, foundations and other funding sources as well as a strong donor network.

·         Excellent written/ oral communication skills, proficient use of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn/ navigate multiple donor databases.  Must be very well organized and detail oriented with an ability to work interdependently.

·         Experience utilizing Donor Perfect and/or other development databases is ideal – not required.

·         Education: College degree

·         Work virtually or in Newtown, CT office.  Must be able to travel at least 1x per month for 3-5 days for meetings, fundraise appointments and/or events.
