End Citizens United’s Mission: To fix our democracy by getting big money out of politics and protecting the right to vote. We will work to end our rigged political system by electing reform champions, passing meaningful legislative reforms, and elevating these issues in the national conversation. We will work in partnership with these champions to overturn Citizens United, end the unlimited and undisclosed money in politics, and protect and expand the right to vote.

Job Summary: The Vice President for Political Operations oversees a team of fifteen and three departments. The VP is tasked with creating, leading, and implementing ECU’s 2020 political strategy. They will join a collaborative work environment and partner with ECU’s President, VP for Communications, and VP for Action Fund to build political capital for reform efforts including getting big money out of politics and protecting voting rights
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage three departments in the organization. The Political Department, primarily focused on House and Senate races. The Finance Department, overseeing both the organization’s revenue and the expansive fundraising program for endorsed candidates. The State and Local Campaigns Department, which includes ballot initiatives, statewide non-federal campaigns, and state legislative chamber priorities.
- Oversees and directs ECU’s political work with all House and Senate candidates, including but not limited to endorsements, candidate contributions, joint events, etc...
- Direct political strategy for the Democratic Presidential Primary and General Election. Identify new ways to expand and promote ECU and the issues of money in politics and voting rights within the campaign.
- Manage important external political relationships with progressive and Democratic partners, including but not limited to the DCCC, DNC, EMILY’s List, and the DSCC.
- Direct and oversee ECU’s polling and messaging project
- Part of the senior Vice-President team that sets the strategic vision and goals for ECU and helps set the budget and spending for departments.
- Represent ECU publicly at meetings, candidate events, GOTV kick-offs, and occasionally in the press or on panels.
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
The VP for Political Operations must be a self-starter with at least 10 years of political and campaign experience. Fundraising, state and federal campaign and political experience is desired. VP for Political Operations should have a strong interest in stopping big money in politics and helping elect democracy reform champions to Congress, possess excellent communication skills, good attention to detail, the ability to think on one’s feet. VP for Political Operations must be willing to travel extensively and committed to the diversity of our candidates, membership, partners, and staff.
