Political Director NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado

NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado is pleased to announce an opening for a key leadership position in our organization. Our Political Director is an integral part of our team who shares a vision of reproductive rights through our policy, political, electoral, coalition and organizational work. We are seeking a candidate who is ready to engage in the work of protecting reproductive rights and abortion care at a critical moment in our movement’s history. Position Overview:   

The Political Director develops and manages the organization’s political, electoral and policy objectives, strategies and activities. 


This position leads on NARAL’s Strategic Goal #1:


Protect a pro-choice agenda through legislative and electoral victories, promote a pro-choice majority and champions, and provide accountability to policy-makers for their positions on reproductive rights.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Develop a comprehensive pro-choice electoral plan to achieve the organization’s electoral goals.  This may include candidate messaging, ballot initiatives, and state/local elections.

  • Develop and implement the organization’s policy strategies in concert with Executive Director and lobbying firm. Specific responsibilities may include: analyzing proposed legislation to determine the possible impact on the organization and/or its constituency; developing policy strategies to address critical policy issues in the legislature or in federal, state and local administration, prepare talking points for legislators and other stakeholders. 

  • Stay abreast of federal, state and local activities that affect access to reproductive rights in Colorado. 

  • Serve as the NARAL liaison to a number of important coalitions representing the organization’s position on a range of issues. Develop and maintain strategies for working with Coalition allies to further organization’s priorities.

  • Prepare reports including the Legislative Scorecard, Political Reports, political stories for NARAL publications and ballot guides.

  • Develop, in concert with the Small Donor Committee, endorsement policies and actions.  As appropriate, develop candidate forums on pro-choice issues.

  • Coordinates with and ensures NARAL team members have accurate and timely information needed as it relates to organizing, canvassing and communication efforts.

  • Attend or present at allied organizational events where NARAL representation is needed. 

  • Works collaboratively with staff to develop messaging and communication regarding legislation and policy. 



Desired Qualifications:


  • Experience working with the state legislative and policy process. Three to five years preferred. 

  • Experience in civic engagement, electoral or candidate campaigns.

  • Experience in the candidate endorsement process.

  • Strong writing and presentation skills.

  • Experience working in diverse coalitions.

  • Demonstrated commitment to reproductive health, rights and justice.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Must be able to work independently as well as in teams in a fast paced environment.

  • Able to work in a highly confidential environment.

  • Leadership experience working with complex teams and reporting relationships.

  • Highly developed conflict resolution skills.

NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado’s mission is to develop and sustain a statewide constituency that used the political process to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding reproductive health care.


Starting Salary range (based on skills and experience):  $50,000 to $65,000

Full-time, salaried position with excellent benefits including:  100% premium paid for health insurance, vision, dental, generous time off policy including sick, personal and vacation time, retirement contribution (2% of salary), flexible hours, life insurance, short and long term disability, and professional development opportunities.  Located in a beautiful office in south Denver with FREE parking and near public transportation.
