Regional Organizer Application:

Lehigh Valley

Pennsylvania Student Power Network

Questions? Email ja...@onepa.org.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We plan to fill these positions by early-to-mid August. Positions are 25-30 hours per week through mid-December, with the possibility of extending beyond the Fall. Compensation is $2,500 per month plus an additional healthcare stipend.

Why become a Regional Organizer with PA Student Power Network (PSPN)?

Are you ready to…

  • organize with college students throughout the Lehigh Valley area,

  • win free college, an end to mass incarceration, and immigrant justice,

  • and build young people political power to take back Pennsylvania?

For the Fall 2018 semester, we’re looking for a recent college graduate or emerging organizer in the Lehigh Valley area.

We’re looking for candidates who know what it takes to organize on a college campus, are passionate about challenging others to take their leadership to the next level, and are dedicated to building a powerful youth movement.

As a Regional Organizer, you’ll work directly with a cohort of paid undergraduate student fellows in your region. You’ll help fellows build campaigns for economic, racial, and social justice, train them on the fundamentals of organizing, engage young people to vote on the issues that matter to us, and work with PSPN’s statewide team to coordinate campaign strategy, media, and data.

You’ll also receive dedicated support, training, and tools to take your organizing skills to the next level. In the process, you’ll build relationships with students, community leaders, and progressive organizations across the state.

Who should apply?

  • Recent graduate or emerging organizer with experience organizing for social justice on the campus level

  • Clear and demonstrated commitment to core values of social justice, racial justice, and collective liberation

  • Clear and demonstrated commitment to working with groups on campus that represent marginalized populations

  • Passionate and skilled at responding to the needs of student and youth activists—working through difficult personal situations, communicating on an ad hoc basis, and providing mentorship

  • Passionate about moving others to action, strong communication skills, and low-ego

  • Access to a car

Women, LGBTQ folks, and people of color are strongly encouraged to apply. We believe in centering and elevating the leadership of those representing the most marginalized among us. By uniting and organizing, we believe that we create change in our communities and across Pennsylvania.

Organizer responsibilities

  • Organizing for 25-30 hours per week

  • Helping paid undergraduate student fellows build and implement organizing plans on campus and in the local area—including mapping campus power, identifying leaders, canvassing for support, holding meetings, working with social and traditional media, planning actions, and engaging young voters

  • Building deep relationships with fellows and student activists on campuses across the region to take their leadership to the next level

  • Participating in campus and local events with partner groups

  • Conducting campus trainings and gatherings, with support from PSPN’s statewide team

  • Communicating with the PSPN Director on a regular basis, and working together to create and execute weekly plans

Organizing term: August through mid-December, with possibility to extend beyond the Fall

Compensation: $2,500 per month, plus healthcare stipend and reimbursement for driving costs

To apply: Send an email with the subject line, “Regional Organizer,” to student...@gmail.com. Include a copy of your resume, 3 references, and answers to the following questions, no more than 200 words each:

  1. What excites you about the Regional Organizer position and the PA Student Power Network?

  2. How did you first get turned on to social justice activism? Was it an experience you had growing up, folks who inspired you, an event in the world, or an action that you participated in?

  3. When was a time that you brought a group of people together around a common cause, concern, or activity?

  4. What experience do you have working with others across race, gender, sexuality, or other identities? What made this work effective or less effective?

  5. Describe your experience organizing on a college campus. Here are a few questions to consider: Were you involved in an issue-based or electoral campaign? Did you canvass for petition signatures, plan actions or events, or lead other activities? Did you participate in any organizing trainings? What made this organizing effective or less effective?

  6. Can you attend our August 17-19 kickoff retreat in Philly? We will cover food, travel, and housing.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. PSPN and our fiscal sponsor, One Pennsylvania, are Equal Opportunity Employers. Women, LGBTQ folks, and people of color are strongly encouraged to apply.
