Summary

NARAL Pro-Choice America is hiring canvassers to support pro-choice candidates and promote pro-choice values in Washington, DC and around the nation. Highly qualified candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to reproductive rights and justice.

 

Location:  Washington, DC

 

This position is: Temporary, Part Time (~15 hours per week); Hourly rate of $15/hr

 

Start Date: ASAP

 

Hours: 

·         6pm-9pm EST Mon-Wed

·         9:30am-12:30pm EST Saturday shift

·         Additional shifts available on occasion

 

Reports To:  Canvass Manager

 

Responsibilities

• Engage with pro-choice supporters & voters in the District of Columbia.
• Educate members on pro-choice issues and candidates while conducting door canvasses, making phone calls, and maintaining a presence at advocacy events around DC.
• Serve as an ambassador for NARAL Pro-Choice America and consistently embody the values of the organization
• Attend Canvasser training in late May at NARAL offices in DC

·         Meet reasonable number of door knocks per/shift dials per night, to be determined.

• Consistently show up on time for all weekly shifts (3 evenings a week + 1 weekend day)

 

Qualifications

• Positive attitude, detail-oriented, and highly motivated
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to memorize a short script and adjust as needed to audience
• Adaptable and willing to work in a fast-paced environment.
• High level of culture competence - can work respectfully with people of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
• Awareness of the reproductive justice political landscape
• Understanding of general electoral and legislative processes
• Able to walk and sit for long periods of time
• Support of mission and philosophy of NARAL Pro-Choice America
• Previous canvassing experience (doors, phones or both) is preferred but not required
