General Description
The Political Director will expand the impact of Justice Democrats, helping our candidates win their elections and driving forward our legislative and communications priorities. This is a critical role in the organization, requiring high level communication and relationship building skills and the savvy to navigate a complex political environment. A successful applicant will have the proven ability to mobilize organizations, coalitions, candidates and elected officials to execute bold and strategic interventions.
This role reports to the Executive Director.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop strategies and work plans to advance our legislative and communications priorities in Congress
Work with senior leadership on communications projects that advance the policy and political goals of the organization
Work with senior leadership to drive JD’s electoral goals for the 2020 and 2022 cycles
Build relationships with key allies, coalitions, organizations, candidates, and elected officials
Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on evolving political dynamics and strategies for achieving JD’s mission
Establish ways of tracking metrics of success, and work with relevant staff across the organization to adopt lessons learned
Represent JD to a wide variety of political stakeholders

Strong political network and relationships among progressive leaders and organizations, including in Congress
Experience with candidate endorsement processes
Ability to mobilize allies in issue-based and electoral coalitions
Excellent political analysis and communications skills, written and verbal
Familiarity with political news media
Familiarity with Congressional legislative process
Ability to work both independently, and as part of a collaborative leadership team
This is a full-time staff role. The compensation for this position is $75,000 per year, plus full benefits.
This position will be based in Washington, DC. All duties can be conducted virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic, so there is no immediate need for relocation.
