Updates from our member community

Hi All,

Happy Veterans Day! What a week! We’re so grateful for this community who have worked so hard to protect and promote our democracy, the Democratic Party, Abortion rights and many more progressive issues. Unless you are in Georgia right now - we hope you are getting some rest. And if you are in GA, let us know how we can support you.

Our primary focus is on supporting the amazing talent who will be rolled off payrolls when campaigns end. We appreciate so many of you who provided feedback to us in the form of our recent survey about these plans. Overwhelmingly, what we heard is that our community wants more networking events and professional development support along with, of course, more and varied job opportunities.

To that end, we’re launching a three-month set of programs called Powering Blue: Talent in Transition. This program will include a variety of virtual events and a few in-person opportunities too. We’re planning online resources, workshops, career panels, networking events, career fairs, partner programs, and more. Stay tuned for a dedicated email about some of the specific events and dates that are locked in - we’ll announce several next week and more over the next few weeks.

We’re also preparing for the next Powerful IDEA Awards to elevate and celebrate the amazing work done during these mid-term elections.

In Solidarity,

- Amy

Hey y’all,

Lyric here! Last week’s victory for the Senate majority was a HUGE step forward in protecting our democracy. Here at GAIN Power, we would like to give a shout-out to GenZ for Change who leverage the power of social media to educate their generation, encourage and mobilize civic participation, shift the political debate, and enact change.

As a member of Generation Z (24 years old to be exact), I continue to be shocked but encouraged by the fearlessness of my generation. We’ve seen a lot in our fairly short lives from 9/11 to school shootings to senseless police brutality to a domestic attack on our nation’s capitol. We’ve also witnessed some incredible moments too, like the elections of the first Black President and first woman to be Vice-President.

Just last week, one of our very own, Maxwell Frost, was elected as the first Gen Z member of Congress! Admittedly, I spent much of this election cycle as a pessimist but Congressman-Elect Frost’s election gave me a hope that I didn’t know I needed. That hope exists because of my generation’s dedication to leaving this country a much better place than we found it.

But make no mistake, Generation Z isn’t the only group of people making a positive difference in our democracy. The overall victory of the Senate and state & local races across the United States is proof that regardless of race, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or any other factor, when we all work together, we are so much more powerful than we are on our own. This week’s newsletter is full of organizations and events that embody that exact spirit, including our upcoming Powering Blue: Talent in Transition series.

I look forward to seeing you in our Career Center and at our events!

In solidarity,

Lyric Swinton, Community Engagement Manager, GAIN Power
