314 Action is a grassroots community of nearly 2 million people working to elect scientists and doctors to all levels of public office and helping scientists get more involved in public discourse. 

Last November, 314 Action's scientists led the charge to take back the House, with nine wins for crucial House and Senate races. This year, we helped recruit astronaut Mark Kelly to run for U.S. Senate in Arizona, and in Colorado, our “Draft Hick for Senate” campaign helped convince former geologist and former Governor John Hickenlooper to take on Cory Gardner. We’re also focused on reelecting our eight newly elected scientists to Congress, along with expanding their ranks and helping to build the bench at the state and local levels.

Rapid Response Manager

314 Action is hiring an experienced communications professional to drive and implement communications strategy heavily focused on rapid response for the 2020 cycle.

Responsibilities:

• Help craft and execute rapid response efforts

• Identify opportunities to push our messaging at national and local levels

• Develop an in-depth knowledge of state-specific issues and their impact on key races

• Cultivate relationships with state and national reporters and pitch stories

• Develop proactive, daily press strategies and new tactics to drive coverage, in close coordination with comms and digital teams

• Draft press releases and statements

• Work with partners and allies on earned media efforts

• Monitor local and national news in real time

• Other responsibilities as needed

Experience and Qualifications:

• Prior press experience on a campaign or similar environment 

• On-the-record experience

• Experience communicating with media, principals, and coordinating with diverse groups of stakeholders

• Ability to work well under pressure and on deadline

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

• Superb attention to detail and high level of organization with the ability to multitask 

• Understanding of today’s traditional and social media environments
