COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR - Virginia House Democratic Caucus

The Virginia House Democratic Caucus seeks a highly skilled Communications Director to oversee rapid response, messaging, long-term strategic communications, and digital strategy for the caucus as we enter the 2018 legislative session. This position is for January 1 - April 30, 2018 with the possibility of being extended into a longer term position.

The Communications Director is responsible for managing the overall messaging strategy for the caucus. He/she will work closely with the Executive Director, Caucus Leader and Caucus Chair to set strategic communications goals. 

The Communications Director should posses the skills and ability to:

• Develop and implement a long-term strategic communications strategy, plans and messages for the caucus

• Managing and executing the caucus rapid response program to hold Republicans accountable

• Ensuring message continuity across all external communications products

• Acting as the primary on the record spokesperson for the House Democratic Caucus

• Managing media requests and developing and maintaining relationships with local and national reporters and bloggers covering Virginia politics 

• Drafting press releases, talking points and other media outreach materials 

• Facilitating press conferences and other earned media events 

• Working with a team to develop and manage a robust social media program

• Staffing and arranging media interviews for caucus leadership and members

This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Qualifications and Skills: 

• Minimum of 2 years experience working in communications role 

• Significant on-the-record experience 

• Excellent writing skills and a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment 

• Virginia ties preferred but not required
