Job Description - Director of Public Affairs and Campaign Communications
Red Cypress Consulting, New Orleans, LA

Job type: Full-time

Compensation: $72 - $80k plus commission and profit-sharing


Red Cypress Consulting seeks a Director of Public Affairs & Campaign Communications to support its clients in getting their message out and winning campaigns. The Director of Public Affairs & Campaign Communications will lead Red Cypress' electoral work and serve as an expert adviser internally and externally on the intersection of politics and communications. This is an ideal position for an ambitious strategic thinker looking for a high-growth opportunity with a fast-paced, young company.


Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Principal to grow and strengthen Red Cypress’ electoral and advocacy campaigning practice

  • Lead strategy development processes and work with project managers and other Red Cypress team members to proactively propose creative strategies to help clients achieve their organizational goals

  • Develop and manage relationships with key policymakers, advocates and other partners

  • Manage media relationships, pitch stories and coordinate interviews on behalf of clients

  • Draft and review press releases, statements, messaging memos and other key written deliverables

  • Manage project timelines and internal project management systems

  • Provide hands-on support and training to clients in campaigning best practices

  • Draft and edit reports and slide decks with strategic recommendations for clients



Required Qualifications

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Strong research skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience running electoral and advocacy campaigns

  • Experience running communications programs and building deep relationships with both local and national reporters

  • Ability to think strategically

  • Ability to work on tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities

  • College degree or comparable work experience

  • Deeply held progressive values and passion for social justice



Desired Qualifications

  • Experience developing communications strategies and advancing strategic narratives

  • Experience with digital organizing and advocacy

  • Experience with project management tools and practices

  • Deep understanding of anti-racism and anti-racist practices

  • Spanish fluency
