Online Technology Manager

Full Time Position – New York, NY



Goal: Progressive States Network (PSN) is seeking an experienced,
resourceful, responsible, detail-oriented, and creative Manager of
Online Technologies to oversee our use of web-based technologies and
databases. This includes maintaining and improving our existing
infrastructure as well as helping develop and innovate new ways to use
online tools to support the mission of the organization.



About PSN: Progressive States Network aims to transform the political
landscape by sparking progressive actions at the state level. Founded
in 2005, the group is building coordinated research and strategic
advocacy tools to help organize the 7000+ state legislators to promote
more progressive policy. We work with those legislators, their
staffs, and thousands of state-based organizations, to better
coordinate progressive policy and promote best practices across the
country. The overarching goals: to get good policy passed into law and
change the way issues are debated in the states.

Much of Progressive States Network’s communication is done over the
Internet and we have ambitious plans for creating more interactive
communication between our staff, legislators, grassroots organizations
and national allies. The goal is to better use technology to empower
legislators to find information they need and more easily collaborate
both with fellow legislators across the country and with supportive
progressive allies.

Job Description:

Specific responsibilities include:



Development and maintenance of our website (based on Drupal),
including upgrading its capabilities to dynamically present existing
information, promote allies providing content, and increasing its
interactivity.

Management and support for PSN’s contact management system
(currently use Democracy in Action), including supporting organization-
wide use of effective email blasts and managing online payment and
donation pages

Maintaining database infrastructure (maintained using
Salesforce) that manages PSN information on state legislators,
organizational allies, and donor information, including working with
policy and outreach staff to most effectively access the data for
outreach

Innovation of new online technologies and social media tools to
promote participatory, “Web 2.0” interaction between staff,
legislators, and organizational allies



All job areas will involve regular interaction with PSN’s policy,
outreach, communication and development staff to ensure that they are
effectively using all online technologies.



Qualifications:

First and foremost, any candidate regardless of experience must
demonstrate an ability to use technology in innovative ways. They
should have a familiarity and commitment to new technologies and
methods used in progressive political organizing, including new media
tools



In the ideal, they will have experience with the key technologies PSN
currently uses, including Drupal, Democracy in Action, and Salesforce,
but they should have experience developing interactive web
applications using JavaScript, PHP, MySQL and similar tools.



Any candidate must have a high attention to detail, professional and
creative, ability to work effectively under tight timelines and
collaborate with multiple team members



Location:

Position based in PSN’s national office in New York, NY. Occasional
travel required.
