We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break with loved ones. Our team took a few days off and didn’t get Friday's newsletter out so here we are today.
Last week, the world lost a real American treasure when Rosalynn Carter passed away. Many of you may be too young to remember what a trailblazer she was and an inspiration for many women. Our sympathies go out to President Carter, her family, and many friends and supporters.
Thanksgiving is a particular time to practice our gratitude (though we try each week), and we have a lot for which we are grateful despite so many challenges.
We're grateful for the safe release of some of the Israeli hostages and the temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. We're thankful that the Biden Administration continues to support Israel while holding them accountable and pressing for more humanitarian support in Gaza and continually reminding us all that the citizens are separate from their government. We continue to pray for the safe return of all hostages, a more permanent ceasefire, and an end to the anti-semitism, Islamophobia, and homegrown hate crimes triggered by these conflicts.
As the world's eye centers on Israel and Gaza, wars continue to rage in Ukraine and places few pay attention, like Eastern Kivu, DRC, an area incredibly close to my heart. Our GAIN Power community focus is domestic but these conflicts are a powerful reminder that our work is always global. All this is the inspiration for our sister organization, Global GAIN. Global GAIN works to grow and link US democracy leaders with champions of democracy globally and has spawned a local Rwandan NGO now called Women GAIN, which we support as well.
