The Sandy for Council campaign  is looking for a full-time Field Organizer to help support our communications and field operation for this competitive and progressive race in Brooklyn, New York. About Sandy Nurse

Sandy Nurse is a community organizer running for New York City Council in District 37. Sandy is an Afro-Latina, born in Panama to an immigrant father and raised by a single mother. Sandy is the founder of BK ROT, a co-founder of the Mayday Space, a direct action organizer, and a carpenter. She has spent nearly a decade working to create the alternative institutions we need for positive social change while confronting power. 

Field Organizer Responsibilities

  • Draft, prepare, and launch campaigns across P2P and phonebank tools

  • Recruit and build relationships with volunteers to hit ambitious voter contact goals

  • Canvass (in-person) and talk to folks in the district through High Traffic Canvassing and door to door Literature drops

  • Develop additional training materials to support field program as required

  • Plan and execute an email program that promotes our field program

  • Motivate volunteers and positively contribute to the volunteer community

  • Perform other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will have these qualities:

  • Spanish fluency and translation skills a plus

  • Experience managing volunteers remotely, including running trainings

  • Experience using digital organizing tools  to keep the volunteer community connected (e.g Zoom, Slack)

  • Strong commitment to progressive politics and ideals

  •  Ability to work in a high-pressure, on-call environment. Candidates must be self-motivated and willing to work long hours

  • Creative problem-solving abilities, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a willingness to try new things

Field Organizer Qualifications

  • New York and/or Brooklyn organizing experience required

  • This position is ideal for a candidate with at least 1-2 cycles of experience on an electoral campaign

  • Team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong, proactive work ethic and commitment to problem solving

Timeline and Compensation

This is a full-time, paid position beginning in early March 2021 and running through June 30, 2021. Monthly compensation for this role is $3,250.
