DESCRIPTION
Local 509
is hiring a Team Leader for the union's Private Sector Human Services chapter.
Working under the supervision of the President/Executive Director, this
management position will lead and develop a statewide chapter of over
6,200 private sector human service workers who provide mental health,
developmental disability, elder care and other social services. These are workers
covered under multiple collective bargaining agreements across the state, so
travel will be necessary.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
In addition to the duties of a Field Representative or Internal Organizer, the Private Sector Team Leader will…
• Supervise private sector Field Representatives and Internal Organizers
• Create, in cooperation with the private sector chapter leadership, bargaining standards — and a coordinated collective bargaining program for the overall local union
• Lead contract negotiations with multiple employers
• Oversee contract campaigns to build the power of private sector workers at the worksite level and within the local union
• Direct internal organizing campaigns within private sector agencies
• Develop capacity within the private sector to mobilize members in support of political efforts that defend services and improve wages and working conditions
• Assist officers in development of the private sector chapter
• Collaborate with the union's external organizing team to build power within the human services field

QUALIFICATIONS
In addition to the qualifications of a Field Representative or Internal
Organizer, the Private Sector Team Leader must have…
• A track record of success in contract negotiations and bargaining campaigns in the private sector
• Significant experience with coordinated multi-employer bargaining efforts
• Knowledge of the human service industry
• Ability to lead, work with a team – including supervision and leadership development roles
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (listening, speaking and writing)
• Ability to work under pressure and with people from diverse backgrounds
• Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends
SUPERVISION
The Private Sector Team Leader works under the President/Executive
Director and the Chief of Staff – who review work for effectiveness,
timeliness, accuracy and conformance with relevant rules and regulations.
