SUMMARY:
NextGen Climate is currently seeking an experienced, detail-oriented spokesperson to join our Iowa team as Press Secretary through the 2016 Iowa caucus. The Iowa Communications Director will serve as the NextGen Climate spokesperson among state and local press in Iowa. The ideal candidate must have previous on-the-record experience in a political or campaign environment, preferably in Iowa.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: “Essential functions” are primarily job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation made by the employer, under the direction of the National Press Secretary.
1. Serve as the on-the-record spokesperson for NextGen Climate on the Iowa campaign.
2. Develop and implement earned media and communications strategies in coordination with the National Press Secretary.
3. Write and edit press releases, statements, and other communications materials under tight deadlines.
4. Build and maintain relationships with key reporters, editors, and producers in print, television, online, and radio in Iowa.
5. Prepare and staff NextGen Climate principals for interviews and press events.
6. Monitor and analyze the daily news in Iowa publications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. A bachelor’s degree
2. A minimum of 3-5 years experience in a communications field, including at least 2 years on-the-record experience.
3. Excellent organizational skills.
4. The ability to adapt rapidly to evolving priorities and deadlines.
5. Driven with a strong work ethic.
6. Ability to travel and work flexible hours.
7. Previous on-the-record experience in a political or campaign environment is required.
