Coworker.org has been supporting tech workers fighting to ensure technology jobs and products are safe, satisfying and secure in the 21st century. We’re focused on helping workers across the tech sector effectively advocate for themselves in this fast-changing industry, as well as deploying technology and data to support tech workers in shifting power. Coworker.org is seeking a Director, Worker Resources and Training to support workers in the tech industry in taking collective action to improve their jobs and their industry. Job responsibilities include external and internal program work. The Director, Worker Resources and Training will report to the Managing Director.


External program work

• Assess the needs of tech employees and provide daily coaching and support for tech workers facing a wide array of challenges in their workplaces
  
• Design and implement support and infrastructure strategies for tech workers in the areas of workplace conditions, ethical whistleblowing campaigns, etc.
  
• Build leadership skills and powerful peer networks for tech workers to help them achieve positive outcomes in their workplace campaigns
  
• Partner with Coworker.org’s Directors and Senior Campaigns Strategist to design and lead in-person and virtual trainings, create digital materials, and assist workers in the formation of committees or loose-knit networks to advocate for workplace improvements
• Provide digital tools and strategic support to enable collective power for tech employees and communities at high risk from tech’s unintended consequences: immigrants, people of color, women, people who are LGBTQ, living with disabilities, low-income, or otherwise vulnerable to systemic injustices
• Build partnerships with external stakeholders to deepen Coworker.org’s impact in specific industries and represent Coworker.org and our community of users at convenings, conferences, meetings, and events

Internal program work

• Partner with our Senior Campaigns Strategist and our Technologist to monitor and engage online communities of tech workers, build out infrastructure as needed, and create and distribute relevant content and engagement materials across channels
• Work closely with our Directors to engage and support workers across industries, track trends, and collaborate on approaches and solutions
• Identify gaps in our current support offerings for workers and provide guidance to help evolve our in-person and digital programs and platform offerings
• Partner with our Campaigns team by assisting workers in using our platform to launch and run their campaigns, develop and execute earned media strategies for campaigns, and help raise awareness of campaigns via email list targeting, social media promotion, and other channels
• Partner with our Managing Director and Co-Directors to provide reports, metrics, and engagement strategies and to amplify workers’ voices in our funding reports, media calls, conference talks, etc.

What we’re looking for:

• Passion for workers’ rights and workplace democracy, with a minimum 5-7 years experience in any of the areas of community organizing, labor or economic justice, workplace organizing, advocacy training, and/or leadership development and training
• Experience working at the intersection of field and digital programs
• Ability to identify and assess challenges, design creative and results-oriented strategies and tactics, and implement creative and results-oriented solutions
• High level of judgement with the ability to take initiative and work independently on multiple priorities
• Ability to collaborate with a small, remote team internally and a variety of individuals, groups, and leaders externally
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation skills, and experience building trust through partnerships
• Demonstrated experience and success working with people from a broad range of backgrounds, communities, and experiences who are vulnerable to systemic injustices, including immigrants, people of color, women, people who are LGBTQ, living with disabilities, low-income, etc. (and any or all intersections of these things)
• Knowledge of key players in the tech industry (Silicon Valley, computer science professional associations, academic departments, and worker communities) and key issues and trends impacting working people (AI ethics, D&I issues, data use & privacy, gig economy, subcontracting, automation, community impact) is desired

The important stuff:

This is a full-time exempt remote position with an annual salary of $80,000, and candidates in the Bay Area are preferred but not required. There is a 12-week introductory period for all new hires. Senior Campaigns Strategist at Coworker.org

Coworker.org engages in workplace activism in unprecedented ways. We’ve helped workers like baristas, cashiers, flight attendants, and Uber drivers lead their own campaigns for the very first time, interacting with them daily, and helping workers across industries advocate for themselves. We’ve also deployed technology and data to support workers in shifting power, and we’ve looking to implement new programs and experiments to win even more campaigns. Coworker.org is seeking a Senior Campaigns Strategist to support workers launching campaigns on our platform to change their workplace conditions and make meaningful change. In this role, you’ll partner with workers across industries and regions to build impactful digital campaigns, as well as providing communications support to help amplify workers’ voices. Job responsibilities include external and internal program work. The Senior Campaigns Strategist will report to the Managing Director.


External program work:

• Assist workers in launching and running campaigns on our Coworker.org platform, develop and execute media strategies with workers, and help raise awareness of workers’ campaigns via email, social, and other channels
• Provide workers with leadership coaching and technical support to run and win campaigns
• Train and support individual workers, organizations, professional associations, and ad hoc groups in effectively using the Coworker.org platform
• Active use of our petition software, including creating custom post-signing actions, updating share language, moderating flagged content, etc.
• Develop, test, and implement new methods for growing and engaging Coworker.org’s user base, including creating new tools, resources, and trainings to amplify workers’ collective voices
• Represent Coworker.org and our community of users at conferences, meetings, trainings, and other events

Internal program work:

• Lead cross-channel content creation and distribution, track and report key user growth and engagement metrics across platforms, and share learnings from campaign and engagement experiments
• Oversee and contribute to the production, delivery and QA of major email programs, social media content, digital advertising, website content, press outreach materials, and worker training materials
• Develop and implement cross-channel digital communications programs to grow and mobilize workers and supporters
• Amplify Coworker.org’s brand by developing the organization’s social media strategy goals, administering our channels, expanding our online presence, and raising brand awareness
• Work with Coworker.org’s Directors to scale industry-specific worker engagement programs and convert research into shareable content
• Partner with Coworker.org’s Technologist to monitor and engage online communities of workers, build out infrastructure as needed, and create and distribute relevant content and engagement materials across channels

What we’re looking for:

• Passion for workers’ rights, workplace democracy, and economic justice, with a minimum 4-5 years experience in digital engagement, advocacy campaigns, and/or grassroots organizing; we’re happy to consider a combination of experience you might have with campus organizing, organizing your own workplace, and professional experience
• Deep knowledge of and experience with CRMs, analytics tools, social media management platforms, and digital advertising platforms; CMS experience is a plus
• Strong judgement, with the ability to take initiative and work independently on multiple priorities while also supporting the work of Coworker.org’s program directors
• Ability to identify and assess challenges, design creative and results-oriented strategies and tactics, and implement creative and results-oriented solutions
