The Voting Rights Lab is looking for an Associate Director of Communications Research to lead our communications research and message polling projects. This role will be part of the Communications team, reporting to the Communications Director, and will work in collaboration with other parts of the organization as well as external partners. Core responsibilities will include conducting in-depth polling and message research both internally and with external partners and then determining the best way to share and deploy information gained. For this role, we are looking for someone with 5-7 years of relevant experience, including at least one year doing messaging and polling research work. The person in this role must have a proven track record as an excellent writer.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Work with the Director of Communications to guide messaging research and polling projects internally and with external stakeholders
Translate research findings into digestible guidance for various audiences; craft narratives and campaign messages to be deployed through Voting Rights Lab’s campaign work
Develop reports, partner memos, briefings, and other resources for Voting Rights Lab staff as well as external partners to best equip them to deploy research findings
Present research findings and provide training opportunities for internal and external stakeholders
Review past messaging research findings to understand and internalize what is already known so that it may inform future messaging work
Project manage multiple messaging research projects simultaneously, including overseeing polling firms and communication with various stakeholders
Collaborate & consult with key staff internally to develop research project goals, outputs, and timelines
Develop messaging research projects that accurately reflect the diverse viewpoints and backgrounds of our partners and audiences
Create messaging guidance to be deployed in key issue areas
Represent the organization and communicate messaging research as part of ongoing national partnerships so that Voting Rights Lab work is being clearly communicated to all relevant stakeholders and we are able to ensure we are meeting the needs of the movement
Accurately predict what messaging is needed and where gaps exist in coordination with Program Directors to craft forward-thinking plans around messaging research that align with programmatic goals
What we’re looking for in you:
5-7 years of relevant experience including communications, research, organizing or partnership outreach with a proven track record of executing high-quality communications work in a fast-paced campaign environment (issue advocacy or political campaigns are fine)
At a minimum, one year of experience working with opinion research and message polling
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience communicating complex policy ideas in a way that helps audiences understand and relate to them
A high degree of comfort with long- and short-form writing
Demonstrated success as a project manager
Ability to work with a variety of high-level stakeholders both internally and externally
Organized, resourceful, flexible individual with strong time management skills and an ability to work independently and on tight deadlines
Experience working with diverse communities and committed to acting on the belief that racial equity and social justice are critical components of our work

Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for Associate Director Communications and Research will be $78,000 - $101,000.
