The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas (ACLU of Texas) is a non-profit, public interest organization devoted to protecting civil liberties and civil rights. The ACLU advances its goals through legal and legislative advocacy, media and public awareness efforts, information and training, membership mobilization, and coalition work. Its staff of nearly 70 employees and more than 10,000 volunteers work in a fast-paced, friendly, and professional environment. Established in 1938, the ACLU of Texas is based in Houston but with offices in Austin, Brownsville, Dallas and El Paso. It is among the 10 largest affiliates of the nationwide ACLU.

The Policy Director of the ACLU of Texas is a member of the leadership team and provides vision and direction for its policy program. This position is primarily responsible for driving the ACLU of Texas’ policy agenda at state and local levels, including the legislature, city councils, county commissions and school boards, and working collaboratively cross departmentally using our integrated advocacy model. The successful candidate will work in concert with the Communications, Advocacy, and Legal departments and support and inspire ACLU members, donors and volunteers and build bi-partisan alliances with other stakeholders.

Leading a team of six professionals, the Policy Director works under the supervision of the Executive Director and in close collaboration with other staff, including the Advocacy, Legal, Communications, Development and Deputy Directors.
