to: Public Affairs Director
California
Planned Parenthood Education Fund is seeking two Senior Organizers responsible
for implementing local field and campus based programs with the goal of
expanding capacity and developing leaders. This position reports to the Public
Affairs Director and works closely with state and local Planned Parenthood affiliate
public affairs teams.
The Senior Organizer
will support the state and local public affairs team by primarily growing Planned
Parenthood campus programs. This includes running recruitment drives and
managing lead students on up to five universities. This position will also support
voter engagement and mobilization programs starting in the summer in key areas. The Senior Organizer will be responsible for
recruiting and managing volunteers in targeted areas.
This is a
temporary position from January to the end November 2016. We will be hiring two
Senior Organizers with one based in the north and one in the south.
Major
Responsibilities
- Works
with Planned Parenthood affiliates to carry out movement building tactics
as well as campaign activities to generate opposition to an expected statewide
ballot initiative requiring parental notification for minors seeking
abortion.
- Builds
and cultivates relationships with affiliates to develop campus campaign
plans and programs.
- Generates
new volunteers and develops leaders on campuses and in the community through
standard organizing tactics outreach.
- Works with state Public Affair Director to create and
lead state and local trainings.
- Manages
existing activist base by initiating frequent and regular communication.
- Attends meetings and trainings as required.
- Works evenings and weekends as needed.
- Demonstrates trustworthy and respectful behavior.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directs the activities of lead volunteers
and interns.
Education
BA/BS
in a related field preferred, or comparable professional experience.
Experience
3-5 years experience in organizing
and electoral campaigns. Must have at least two election cycles of experience
as a full time campaign staff. Management
experience preferred.
Skills and Requirements
- Able
to effectively inspire and mobilize people.
- Self-motivated,
and able to successfully manage multiple tasks, work under pressure and
produce quality work within tight time constraints.
- Skilled
at working independently as well as within a team, able to collaborate
across organizations and amongst departments.
- Excellent
written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate a
public affairs agenda to the voting public as well as the general public.
- Strong
commitment and ability to recruit, train, manage and perform the following
voter engagement tactics including but not limited to: phone banking,
canvassing, visibility efforts, rallies, media events, and tabling.
- Experience
using the VAN a must.
- Computer
proficient with Microsoft Office required, experience with the internet
and other databases as needed. Experience with e-organizing and social
networking.
- Use
of standard office equipment and ability to move within a standard office
setting.
- Ability
to move door-to-door canvassing
- Must
be comfortable with “cold calling” on issues and for volunteer recruitment.
- A
valid driver’s license required and reliable transportation.
Travel
Ability to travel in-state as
needed.
Compensation
Excellent
salary with stipend for cell phone/laptop and healthcare reimbursement subject
to a cap.
