Not sure which presidential campaign you want to hop on, but want to gain experience as a traveling Press Secretary, Digital Director, or Videographer before the fall? Then Tax March has the perfect opportunity for you! 

Tax March, a national progressive advocacy organization fighting for economic justice and tax fairness, is hiring a traveling Press Secretary, Digital Director, and Videographer for its upcoming Tax the Rich bus tour. The national tour will hit all four early presidential primary states and provide an incredible opportunity make press contacts, learn from digital experts, and form relationships with progressive leaders and partners across the country.

Press Secretary

Job Title: Press Secretary

Reports To: Press Lead, Tax the Rich Bus Tour

About the position:

Tax March is hiring a press secretary for the Tax the Rich national tour. This is a contracted position that’ll run from 6/17 - 8/2. The Tax the Rich tour will take place between the first and second Democratic debate and will start in Miami and end in Detroit. The Press Secretary will travel on the bus for the duration of the tour, and will be responsible for driving the day-to-day communications operation for the tour and coordinating with the Tax March digital and communications teams (who are based in DC). This person will focus on coordinating local press outreach to help amplify the message of the tour, pressing all Democratic primary candidates to agree to make taxing the rich a priority of their campaign.

As a Press Secretary you’ll:

  • Assist the Communications Lead and Press Lead with executing the tour’s overall communications strategy and coordinating press relations
  • Coordinate local press outreach, directly pitching reporters and wrangling press at events
  • Work with the Trip Director, Communications Lead, and/or Press Lead to facilitate interviews with VIPs, partners, and other surrogates
  • Help manage the distribution of communications materials for the tour, including press advisories, press releases, editorial board memos, op-eds, and other press materials
  • Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate press logistics at events
  • Work with Communications Lead and other colleagues to prepare sisters for the tour and events, including providing media trainings as sisters join the bus
  • Perform other duties as assigned

About you:

  • You have two to three years of communications experience
  • You are an excellent writer and can communicate effectively with diverse audiences
  • You are extremely well organized, detail-oriented, and analytical
  • You have an excellent understanding of earned media
  • You are eager to adapt to the latest technology and employ creative communications
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to solve problems effectively

Digital Director

Job Title: Digital Director

Reports To: Digital Lead, Tax the Rich Bus Tour

About the position:

Tax March is hiring a Digital Director for the Tax the Rich national tour. This is a contracted position that’ll run from 6/17 - 8/2. The Tax the Rich tour will take place between the first and second Democratic debate and will start in Miami and end in Detroit. The Digital Director will travel on the bus for the duration of the tour, and will be responsible for driving the day-to-day digital operation for the tour and coordinating with the Tax March digital and communications teams (who are based in DC). This person will focus on creating compelling digital content to help amplify the message of the tour, pressing all Democratic primary candidates to agree to make taxing the rich a priority of their campaign.

As a Digital Director you’ll:

  • Publish compelling social media content to Tax March’s Facebook and Twitter accounts
  • Capture images and short video at bus events
  • Brainstorm strategy, tactics, and creative to help amplify the tour
  • Livestream events (as needed)
  • Live tweet events (as needed)
  • Keep a pulse on the latest trends (including trending topics on social media platforms) and best practices for digital – and integrate them into our online organizing efforts
  • Perform other duties as assigned

About you:

  • You have exceptional writing skills with a wide range of tone and personality
  • You have experience managing social media channels
  • You have an eagerness to adapt to the latest trends
  • You have a sense of humor, adventurous spirit, and an openness to evolving responsibilities
  • You’re organized, detail-oriented, and analytical
  • You have prior experience working on a campaign or at an advocacy organization
  • You’re excited to spend a month on the road, traveling across the country on a national bus tour

In addition, it would be a bonus if:

  • You have experience shooting and editing video and/or taking high quality still photos
  • You have prior experience working on a campaign or an advocacy organization
  • You are familiar with how to communicate about economic policy
  • You have experience covering live events for digital channels



Photographer/Videographer

Job Title: Photographer/Videographer

Reports To: Digital Lead, Tax the Rich Bus Tour

About the position:

Tax March is hiring a Photographer/Videographer for the Tax the Rich national tour. This is a contracted position that’ll run from 6/17 - 8/1. The Tax the Rich tour will take place between the first and second Democratic debate and will start in Miami and end in Detroit. The Photographer/Videographer will travel on the bus for the duration of the tour, and will be responsible for bolstering the efforts of the traveling digital manager, creation of specific digital products such as longer video compilations and direct to camera interviews with key surrogates.

This person will focus on creating compelling visual content to help amplify the message of the tour, pressing all Democratic primary candidates to agree to make taxing the rich a priority of their campaign.

As a Photographer/Videographer you’ll:

  • Document events on the tour, creating digitally publishable content
  • Capture images and short video at bus events
  • Brainstorm strategy, tactics, and creative to help amplify the tour
  • Livestream events (as needed)
  • Conduct direct-to-camera interview
  • Edit video to create digital products that can be amplified along the tour
  • Perform other duties as assigned
