The National Canvass Director is responsible for the management of Greenpeace’s street and door-to-door canvass offices to ensure that each office achieves its financial and member recruitment objectives. This is a senior level position responsible for a multi-million dollar fundraising program.
Greenpeace’s Canvass operation is responsible for recruiting over half of the organization’s new supporters by signing more than 40,000 new members, and recapturing 5,000 lapsed supporters every year. The role of the canvass team is primarily to increase the breadth of our financial supporter base, which serves as the foundation of our independent financial strength and the political impact of Greenpeace.
The best candidate for this position will be an experienced fundraiser and manager, with a talent for strategic planning, and possesses a deep understanding of the role and potential uses of canvassing for Greenpeace and its campaigns.
This role is responsible for:
Performance: Create annual budgets with the Development Leadership Team that sets objectives for total money raised, total members recruited, net income, gross income and expenditures, and attrition. Adjust budgets during quarterly reforecasting schedule set out by the Finance team. Develop ROI-based, data-driven regional and office-level goals and parameters for the program, including quotas, staff number objectives, and more. Manage the Frontline Core Team to achieve these objectives for the program.
Evaluation: Analyze national, regional, and office-by-office reports each week assessing performance with an eye on Return on Investment (ROI) and Lifetime Value (LTV) projections, income, expense, new member volume, attrition, average gift, and other key performance indicators. Highlight any key positive or negative trends and make changes to the program and staff as necessary to maximize the income for the organization.
Staff Development: Directly manage the recruitment, training and development of Regional Directors, National Trainers, and operations staff. Lead the Frontline Core Team plus and matrix managed staff, in the development and implementation of national trainings that elevate the business acumen and professionalism of the office managers so that they are empowered to achieve their fundraising goals. Ensure that equity, diversity and inclusion practices are imbedded in the hiring and retention practices of the program and that the workplace is inclusive to all.
Innovation: Create, test, track, and implement new methods of accomplishing programmatic goals while mitigating risk. Support staff in creating, testing and implementing innovative ideas that focus on maximizing ROI and furthering organizational long-term strategic goals.
Supporter Management: Ensure that all member data is collected and kept secure. Should there be a need to sign supporters on paper forms, ensure that offices are securely transmitting that data centrally within 24 hours of receipt, and that all membership data is secure at all times. Work closely with the Data and Supporter Care teams to ensure that information is being shared swiftly across teams and that complaints are responded to and reported back on within 24 hours.
