Greater Boston Interfaith Organization seeks full time Healthcare Organizer 

Work will focus on GBIO’s 2019-2020 Healthcare campaign through the end of the legislative session (i.e. July 2020). Organizer will work with GBIO member institutions with supervision from the GBIO Lead Organizer. Full time June 2019-July 2020
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: ● Identify, recruit and train healthcare leaders using the Industrial Areas Foundation’s proven person-to-person organizing method. Guide and support leaders in healthcare organizing.  ● Set up and conduct 20-25 one to one meetings per week. (A one to one meeting is a focused 40 minute meeting with a person to build a relationship and to find leaders for public action.) ● Build healthcare organizing teams in 8-10 GBIO member institutions. ● Write a weekly report and participate in a weekly check-in with the Lead Organizer. ● GBIO offers a paid, 90-day try-out. Organizer candidates are given an organizing assignment to test their capacity and receive extensive training and supervision from the Lead Organizer. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS: ● One (1) or more years of experience in community organizing; ● Can meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks in a fast paced work environment; ● Excellent personal accountability and follow through; ● People of color strongly encouraged to apply; ● Multilingual skills are a plus; ● Familiarity with the healthcare field is a plus ● Must own and operate a car
 
QUALITIES OF A SUCCESSFUL ORGANIZER: 1. NATIVE INTELLIGENCE – not necessarily degrees, but the ability to think, reflect, communicate, challenge the conventional wisdom, make judgments in complicated situations, and show flexibility.  2. ANGER AND EDGE – not temper, not ideological fervor, not an abstract commitment to “the people,” but a clear sense of what’s wrong, impatience in the face of that wrong, and a drive to address it.  3. RELATIONALITY, ESPECIALLY ACROSS RACE AND CULTURE – ability to build deep trust with people, especially people unlike oneself, people of other races, classes, orientations, faiths, etc. GBIO is a powerful force for change, creating justice and opportunity in Greater Boston by uniting our faith communities and civic partners across lines of race, class, and religion.  4. A TRACK RECORD – some evidence, in high school, college, the local community or the workplace of attempting to relate to people and to respond to situations that seemed to demand responses; and some success in whatever field, career or endeavor has occupied the individual’s time.  5. HUSTLE
