Virginia: Organizer positions with Progress Virginia

Location: Richmond, Virginia / Hampton Roads, Virginia

Classification: Contract, Immediately-August 1st

DESCRIPTION: Progress Virginia is looking to hire a full-time issue-based community organizer to start immediately and work in (Richmond/Hampton Roads) until August 1st. Organizers will recruit and engage activists around issues including health care, the TrumpTax, and birth control access.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Identify and develop strong relationships with activists.
• Commit to meeting activists where they are, hold one-on-one meetings, house visits and other methods of grassroots outreach.
• Maintain constant and structured communication with activists you identify.
• Recruit attendees to organized communication events for earned media and public accountability.
• Execute a mobilization strategy and follow a pre-written field plan based on the specific issue areas mentioned.
• Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with grassroots organizing
• Ability to work from home and be disciplined enough to get things done on a tight deadline
• Applicant must be based in Richmond or Hampton Roads and possess a driver’s license with access to a car
• Self-motivated and works well both independently and on a team. Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, manage multiple projects.
• Team player who is willing to tackle unglamorous tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Motivated self-starter who sees that something needs to be done and takes it on
• Must have a demonstrated commitment to progressive values, especially in the issues you’ll be organizing around.
