Fall 2016 Internship Position

 

Conservation Colorado is seeking a part-time Organizing & Elections Intern to assist with outreach efforts and take the lead on special projects this fall. The Intern will gain direct experience working with seasoned and knowledgeable organizing professionals at one of Colorado’s leading conservation organizations. This internship is designed for an individual who is committed to civic engagement and seeking an opportunity to mobilize volunteers to help elect conservation-minded policy makers in various 2016 state and local election races. The internship is also designed to provide training and expertise in our issue-area campaigns concerning public lands and wilderness, water, and climate and energy.

 

Position: Organizing & Elections Intern
Location: Denver, Colorado

Deadline for submission: August 19th

Term of Position: 3 – 4 months

Work Schedule: 15 – 20 hours/week

Compensation: Unpaid

About Conservation Colorado
Conservation Colorado works to protect Colorado’s environment and quality of life by mobilizing people and electing conservation-minded policy makers.

We work closely with policy leaders, citizen activists, businesses and other allies, and have built a reputation as one of the leading conservation advocacy organizations in the region. This fall we will be tackling everything from finalizing Colorado’s state water plan and ensuring the passage of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan, to moving key public lands and wilderness bills that will protect iconic places across Colorado. We will continue our engagement in state and local elections by supporting and endorsing conservation-minded candidates running for office in the 2016 state and local elections.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities

     Assist with planning, attendee turnout, and logistics for events,

     Assist organizers with awareness and outreach efforts such as letters to the editor, social media posts, tabling at events, crafting materials for public events, and other similar activities.

     Assist Organizing Team with data entry and volunteer recruitment.

     Assist in the coordination of volunteers, including coordinating canvassing and phone banking efforts in order to further support our 2016 political activities.

 

        Qualifications
We’re seeking someone who has a strong interest in political campaigns & elections and is enthusiastic about working with people.  Those with an interest in environmental issues, political work, social change, and mobilizing communities to action are encouraged to apply.  Specific requirements include: 

        Being meticulous and well organized

        Possessing superior communication skills, both on the phone and in person

        Interest in working with diverse communities

        Ability to multi-task and manage short-term and long-term deadlines

        Working knowledge of Google Apps, Microsoft Office and design programs are a plus

     Spanish/English bilingual is nice, but not a requirement as is previous experience working with volunteers.

 

Compensation and Benefits

Intern will gain direct experience working with seasoned and knowledgeable organizing professionals at one of Colorado’s leading conservation organizations. In addition, Conservation Colorado is located in one of Denver’s premier multi-tenant nonprofit centers, The Alliance Center, so opportunities for shared learning and dialogue between nonprofits abound. Intern will have the opportunity to network at political and environmental events throughout the course of the internship. No cash stipend or benefits are available; however, letters of recommendation will be available upon request. Opportunities for full-time employment at Conservation Colorado do occasionally occur and interns are eligible to apply.
