The College Promise Campaign Internship Program

The College Promise Campaign (CPC) is building a movement to make community college free for responsible students. The CPC Internship Program is designed to immerse participants in the fields of higher education policy and campaign organizing. Interns will gain meaningful, hands-on work experience as an integral part of our team’s success.

The internship is based in Washington, DC and includes occasional travel. The Internship Program includes a bi-monthly stipend.

Responsibilities:

Interns will work closely with the full CPC team but will focus on one of two tracks:

Interns in the research and policy track will perform research for grants and special projects, draft briefs, reports, and publications, and work collaboratively on organizing partner events. They should also expect to prepare additional documents and digital content in support of research, earned media, and board relations.

The engagement and advocacy track interns will support CPC’s outreach events, coalition building, and digital media efforts. Interns will work to expand our state and sector-based leadership teams, develop digital content, and support the growth of our movement on campuses across the country.

Both internship tracks will also assist with scheduling, database management, and other administrative or logistical duties. A variety of other related tasks may be assigned as needed.

CPC is a new and growing initiative, therefore interns will have the chance to help build our nationwide effort and immerse themselves in a wide range of professional responsibilities and opportunities.

Qualifications:

CPC interns must demonstrate strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and confidence working in a fast-paced environment. They should have excellent written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills. Candidates should be students or graduates who are interested in higher education.

Candidates with experience in education policy, student leadership, or grassroots organizing are preferred. Students with a community college background are encouraged to apply.

Details:

This semester-based program is in Washington, D.C. and begins in late-August 2016 , with an end date in late-December 2016.

A stipend of $1,600 a month will be provided. Arrangements can be made with schools for course credit. The position is full time; although hours may vary as our campaign calendar fluctuates.

If you have any questions or would like to apply, please email your resume, cover letter, and three references to Matt Caffrey at ma...@civicnation.org by Friday, July 15, 2016 at the latest. We are interviewing candidates on a rolling basis. Thank you for your interest!

College Promise Campaign:

CPC is a nonpartisan higher education initiative that builds widespread support for free community college for all responsible students. We are also building broad public consensus that free community college is an investment in America’s future and a necessary continuation of K-12 education. In the 21st century, a high school diploma is no longer enough to lead Americans to a good job and decent quality of life.  Candidates can learn more about our work by visiting CPC’s website at HeadsUpAmerica.us.

CPC is an initiative of Civic Nation, a 501(c)(3) organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.
