About the organization

IPPF/WHR is a leader in the movement for sexual and reproductive health and rights in the Americas and Caribbean. We work with 45 partner organizations in nearly every country throughout the region that share a common mission: to ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive healthcare, promote sex education, and fight for sexual and reproductive rights. 

 In 2017, our partners provided 7.5 million people with nearly 36 million services, including contraception, breast and cervical cancer screenings, HIV/STI prevention and treatment services, and safe abortion. These lifesaving interventions saved $237.5 million in direct healthcare costs, averted 2.5 million unintended pregnancies, and averted nearly more than 496,000 unsafe abortions. We also leveraged advocacy opportunities to create an environment where policies and programs meet the real-life needs of local communities. These efforts led to 39 progressive advocacy achievements across the region in 2017 alone.

 The IPPF/WHR Regional Office connects our partners to the global movement for sexual and reproductive rights and ensures their long-term sustainability by providing capacity building in areas such as program planning, organizational development, and fundraising. Together, we build strong institutions and healthy communities.

 

Job summary

IPPF/WHR through la Federación Internacional de Planeación Familiar-México A.C is looking for a creative, talented and dynamic individual to manage programs within the Youth, Gender, and Rights team, with a focus on, but not limited to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services for youth and meaningful engagement of youth. S/he will support the development and implementation of effective strategies and interventions to ensure quality and expand reach of adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights programming in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Region. S/he will contribute to the development and implementation of other related strategies to advance a rights-based approach to SRH programs, including: ensuring that young people are engaged meaningfully at all levels of IPPF’s regional work; addressing the SRH needs of adolescents through comprehensive sexuality education; preventing and mitigating the effects of gender-based violence, and promoting meaningful inclusion of underserved communities in our work.

 

 

 

Key functions and responsibilities

This position reports to the Associate Director of Programs – Youth, Gender, and Rights and will be responsible for the following:

• In collaboration with the Associate Director of Programs – Youth, Gender, and Rights, develop and execute effective strategies for increasing the quality and reach of IPPF/WHR member association (MA) youth programs.
• Lead training efforts on approaches to youth programming with a focus on SRH services for youth with member associations to promote youth-friendliness, meaningful engagement of young people, and integration of important issues such as sexual diversity and abortion, and unfilled gaps in the region, such as services for young adolescents and innovative approaches to service delivery.
• Assist Member Associations (MAs) in positioning themselves as providers of technical assistance in youth-friendly services in the public sector.
• Contribute to team strategies to reach underserved populations with clinical and educational services, coordinating with other members of the programs unit.
• Support advocacy actions to increase political commitment and promote positive policy change related to adolescent SRH topics.
• Collaborate closely with the Organizational Learning and Effectiveness unit to measure the effectiveness of adolescent SRH interventions.
• Collaborate closely with the Communications team to document and disseminate programmatic results.
• Oversee the day-to-day management of the implementation of projects with IPPF/WHR Member Associtaions in the region, related to SRH services for youth and other projects within the Youth, Gender, and Rights and integrated programs portfolios:
• Represent IPPF/WHR at external consultations and meetings focusing on adolescent and youth SRH issues and other relevant topics and seek to build the organization’s visibility as an expert in the topic.

 

Required education and experience

• Graduate Degree or equivalent preferably with a specialization in a particular field of study (MSW, MA, MPH, etc.)
• Experience with the delivery of clinical services is highly desired
• At least five (5) years of experience in the sexual and reproductive health or relevant field

·         Experience in program management, capacity building and training of professionals

·         Knowledge of evidence and best practices in adolescent sexual and reproductive health in the LAC region

·         Experience working in the Latin America and Caribbean region

·         Advanced oral and written skills in Spanish and English required

·         Ability and willingness to travel to New York and within Latin America and the Caribbean

·         Essential traits include being systematic, organized, detail- and deadline-oriented, self-motivated, diplomatic, strategic, creative, collaborative, able to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced team-oriented environment

 

Location: Mexico City strongly preferred. Opportunity to be based in the LAC region. 

Salary:  This is a local hire. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
