Position Summary

DC Councilmember seeks a part-time Communications Manager for the November general election campaign. The position requires 5-10 hours a week. 


The ideal candidate will be creative, entrepreneurial, and have a finger on the pulse of the local DC news cycle and online conversation. They will drive the campaign’s messaging in the digital and traditional media spaces. The position is mostly remote and the candidate must be able to work independently as well as collaborate with a small team, including the principal and a senior campaign official. 


Responsibilities

  • Planning and writing content for weekly emails using MailChimp

  • Crafting social media posts, including designing graphics and editing video that will stand out on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram

  • Updating the campaign website through WordPress as needed

  • Fielding media inquiries and liaising with the press to schedule media appearances and scheduling interview requests

  • Writing press releases


Requirements:

  • Passionate about the equity and justice

  • Ability to work on your own or with a small team

  • Strong interpersonal skills along with the ability to write and edit quickly and clearly

  • Understanding of social media platforms, MailChimp, and WordPress

  • Graphic design and video editing (program agnostic)

  • Sharp attention to detail and aware of social media norms 


Location: Remote

Duration: Monday, July 13 through mid-November 2020 

Pay: $15 per hour

Interview Process: Two interviews, reference check, and a short writing/design test (~1hr)
