Families USA, a leading national voice for health care consumers, is dedicated to the achievement of high-quality, affordable health care for all. We advance our mission through public policy analysis, advocacy, and collaboration with partners to promote a patient- and community-centered health system. We are hiring a Development Officer to work closely with the Senior Director of Development, the Grants Manager, the Development Assistant and senior staff to build and expand a comprehensive development program including individual, corporate and foundation donors. The Development Officer will have a broad and diverse portfolio of responsibilities such as writing proposals and reports for institutional donors, managing a new individual giving program consisting of direct mail and digital engagement, and supporting the launch of a major gift program.  


Responsibilities

  • Identify, cultivate and manage relationships with potential corporate and foundation funders through effective verbal and written communication. Work closely with program staff to write and submit a substantial number of grant proposals annually.
  • Design and manage an annual giving program that will raise donations from individuals in small amounts through direct mail and digital outreach.
  • Plan, implement and integrate retention and cultivation strategies to grow and sustain the annual giving program and diversify giving opportunities for donors.
  • Optimize the website for donations and develop and execute creative new online and social media fundraising campaigns.
  • Conduct research on individual donor prospects and/or manage research by other staff.
  • Manage the prospect database CRM (Salesforce) and track them throughout the donor lifecycle.
  • Write concise and compelling development documents, such as outreach and thank you letters, and gift proposals for individual prospects.
  • Develop and coordinate strategies to deepen relationships with prospects through large and small events and one-on-one visits.
  • Oversee the proper acknowledgment of all charitable donations and ensure efficient and effective stewardships of all donors.
  • Some management of the Development Assistant and intern.

  • The ability to work individually, as well as part of a team.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, motivated office environment.
  • Strong self-motivation and an attention to detail
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience
  • A bachelor’s degree; graduate degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and Salesforce.
