Community Organizer Wanted (Education Issues). Temporary position (August - April) in upstate New York in the Capital/Mohawk Valley Region
Conduct extensive outreach to parent and youth groups, community organizations, congregations, advocacy groups and other organizations;
Mobilize and train parents and community members to participate in a wide variety of activities, including grassroots lobbying, press conferences, rallies and demonstrations, meetings and leadership trainings;
Coordinate relationships with coalition partner groups;
Create advocacy, organizing and outreach materials as needed and for broad-based distribution;
Organize and/or work with other organizations to include coalition participation in a variety of actions, including rallies, legislative days, legislative testimony, etc.;
Actively engage public officials around the coalition’s policy agenda and organizing strategy determined by consensus of organized constituencies;
Through all of these activities and others, build the power of a grassroots education coalition in support of excellent and equitable public education.
Other duties and expectations include:
Take part in weekly staff meetings via conference calls.
Contact the supervisor at least once daily to discuss progress, tactics, and concerns.
Attend events and actions
Work evenings and some weekends.
Travel as necessary
Organizer must hold a valid driver’s license and have a car.
