THE ROLE

As Director of Research and Policy, you will develop stronger accountability between schools and the larger community through data analysis and publications on student achievement. Reporting to the Managing Director of Communications and work closely with other members of our cabinet, you will manage development of all policy research content – white papers, and short analyses, aligned to the overall campaign. You will work as an integral member across multiple teams and dive headfirst into a fast-paced environment. RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities of the Director of Research and Policy will include but are not limited to:

  • Lead Families for Excellent Schools’ development of research and policy initiatives.
  • Have expertise in state and federal public school assessment and accountability systems, high-leverage education reform policies, and essential elements of high quality schools for low-income children;
  • Write reports and prepare presentations on student achievement and public education reform issues in the region designed for various diverse audiences, including parents (particularly low-income parents), the media, business leaders, school districts, and the broader community;
  • Lead the Research and Policy Team, including a research and policy manager and data analyst contractors;
  • Supervise the analysis and reporting of public school student achievement data in the region.

QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS

Candidates should enjoy working in a dynamic, results-oriented environment in which expectations are high for both the quality and speed of work. In addition, they should have the following:

  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis, policy, and research related to the education;
  • Expert writing skills; strong oral presentation skills;
  • Successful experience working in entrepreneurial environments, with the capacity to be flexible, collaborative, and solutions-oriented; 
  • Strong project management skills; detail orientation, with an ability to operate in a highly organized fashion;
  • Ability to effectively build relationships with various internal and external partners;
  • Preferred commitment to education, low-income communities, and communities of color.
