ABOUT THE ROLE: DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
We’re looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual to join our team as the Development Manager, reporting to the VP of Strategy & Scalability and working directly alongside the Chief Executive Officer, playing an integral role in the systematic build of the organization’s fundraising engine. Your role will blend the best of project management, sales, and communications, strategically defining and executing against a development plan and helping the CEO secure $15m in funding.
You love systems and obsess over how to manage projects and processes the most effective and efficient way possible to get the job done. You will have the freedom and encouragement to bring new ideas to the table as you help shape Rocketship’s fundraising practices and act as the driving force behind a significant campaign.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE...
Pipeline Management:
- Building our funder pipeline through targeted research.
- Working closely with the VP of Strategy & Scalability and CEO to prioritize funder prospects, define engagement strategies, and maintain detailed track of progress.
- Keeping the executive team on track against funder engagement strategies and the broader development workplan.
- Assisting with fundraising-related communications to and discussions with the Rocketship Board of Directors.
Funder engagement:
- Assisting with pitch development and materials preparation – from creating presentations to drafting communications.
- Planning and attending school tours and other Rocketship fundraising events.
- Tracking all gifts and grants and owning the funder stewardship process, including gift acknowledgements, proactive outreach, and required reporting.
- Representing Rocketship Education at internal and external meetings and events.
Systems building:
- Completing implementation of funder database, including visioning and creating optimal reports and analyses.
- Building and codifying efficient processes and procedures for all steps of the fundraising process, including clearly defining engagement needed from across the organization.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE...
- With an evident passion for Rocketship’s mission, matched with a strong work ethic and a belief that all students can achieve academic success.
- With 2-6 years of relevant experience working in a role requiring stellar project management, strategic/systems thinking, and communication skills.
- Who has an ability to prioritize work on multiple projects in a self-directed and results-oriented manner, paying close attention to detail and staying organized under tight deadlines.
- With strong research skills, excellent and engaging writing skills in both prose and presentations, impeccable editing and proofreading skills, and strong verbal communications skills.
- With exceptional relationship and interpersonal skills, and a proven track record of successful client relations and customer service experience.
- With a proven track record of proactively designing, executing, improving, and documenting internal systems to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
- Who is comfortable with ambiguity and experienced working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment – with ability and desire to help shape a new role and flexibly shift responsibilities over time as the role and department evolve.
- With demonstrated success “managing through influence,” driving results requiring contribution from a diverse set of stakeholders without direct oversight.
- Who is mature and self-motivated, confident in their opinions and comfortable contributing meaningful insights and ideas.
- Who has strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as the ability to quickly learn new software applications.
- Who lives in or is open to relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area.
Bonus if you are someone:
- With a Master’s degree
- With experience working in K-12 education.
