Office of Assemblywoman Diana C.
Richardson represents the 43rd. Assembly district which encompasses the
neighborhoods of Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Wingate, and East
Flatbush. Assemblywoman Richardson is a member on the Assembly standing
committees on Banks, Children and Families, Corporations, Authorities and
Commissions, Mental Health, Small Business, Women’s Caucus, and The Black,
Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus where she holds an
executive role on its sub-committee for women of color as Secretary.
Assemblywoman Richardson’s top priorities include: Criminal Justice Reform,
Juvenile Justice Reform, Housing/Homelessness, Health (particularly eating
habits and access to fresh foods), Gun Violence Prevention, and issues of
Poverty.
Position:
The
Director of Communications and Public Affairs will coordinate the
Assemblywoman’s overall communications strategy. Reporting to the Chief of
Staff, the Director of Communications and Public Affairs will work
collaboratively with senior leadership, other staffers, and the member to
develop and implement communication strategies to broaden the impact of the
Members legislative priorities, initiatives, and will oversee messaging and
constituent outreach.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Chief of Staff and the
member to develop communications strategies that will broaden and deepen
impact
- Develop and refine the members "core"
messages to ensure organizational consistency
- Identify significant media and public policy
issues that can be leveraged and create and implement plans to highlight
them
- Serve as executive editor for the website,
newsletter, E-Updates, and op-ed pieces
- Oversee response to media inquiries
- Coordinate press conferences
- Draft press releases, statements, talking points,
media advisories, and white papers
- Organizing press conference, teleconferences, and
briefings
- Collaborate and build coalitions with other
elected, community members, and organizations
Qualifications:
- Significant communications experience that
includes a blend of advocacy and media relations
- Strong and creative writing skills
- Possess strong leadership and organization skills
- 1+ cycles experience in campaign or political
communications

Strong verbal
communications skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and
persuasively

Good marketing
sense – developing messages, slogans and tactics that create buzz and draw
attention
·
Must be a
detail-oriented, self-starting professional
Preferred:

Graphic design,
InDesign, WordPress, and HTML knowledge
Compensation: 28-33k (possibly negotiable)
