SUMMARY


This position is responsible for monitoring pipeline system operations, performing daily activities and maintenance on pipeline and related facilities to optimize production and efficiency including mentoring and supervision of entry level Technicians.

This is the fully qualified, experienced, or ‘career’ level of the Pipeline Technician family. The primary intent of this role is to independently take responsibility for varied assignments requiring a broad understanding of field operations and/or may also have specialized knowledge of one area, as well as knowledge of interrelated effects of the work upon other areas of the business. Incumbent has full working knowledge of all aspects of operations and procedures in their work area(s).

As the ‘career’ level for the Pipeline Technician, incumbents may remain at this level for a significant period of time. Progression to the next level is subject to position availability and business need. Progression may be to Lead Level in the Trades or Field Operations, which may occur as incumbents acquire additional technical skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications.

Progression may involve overseeing a larger scope of operations, where a significant portion of time is dedicated to managing people and the areas administrative and operations versus offering hands‐on technical expertise.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS will include the following:


  • Perform pipeline operations and maintenance activities on pipeline systems including compressor stations, dehydration/stabilizer facilities, pumping facilities, measurement facilities, and related equipment which may include but is not limited to:
  • Startup and shutdown
  • Pigging
  • Purging/Blowdown
  • Grind Outs
  • Changing charts
  • Gauging tanks
  • Locating and marking lines
  • Monitoring cathodic protection
  • Leakage Survey/Patrolling pipelines
  • Maintenance and Repair of Production Equipment, Compression, Regulators, Pumps and Valves.
  • Gas Compression Operations/Maintenance
  • Flare System Operations/Maintenance
  • Instrument Air System Operations/Maintenance
  • LACT/Centrifugal Pump Operations/Maintenance
  • Monitor usage and/or replace lubricants, fluids, inhibitors, chemicals, etc., as needed to ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment.
  • Exchange information regarding pipeline operations, maintenance, measurement, and other activities with public/governmental officials, employees, contractors, customers, producers, and land owners.
  • Calculate, compile, and/or prepare information and reports including but not limited to:
  • Gas/liquid flow and quality
  • Maintenance and/or repair logs
  • Samples (gas/liquids)
  • Pipeline/corrosion activities
  • Construction inspection
  • Appropriate regulatory requirements
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Drive and ensure maintenance is complete on company vehicles.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.
  • Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.

Previous “hands-on” experience with…

  • Experience operating and maintaining pipeline systems and related equipment utilized in natural gas and liquids gathering and transmission systems.
  • Experience in various field functions including measurement, cathodic protection, and lact , compressor/pump station operations.
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Experience and training related to:
  • Company and governmental operating/safety procedures and environmental regulations
  • Characteristics of natural gas and gas liquids, oil and water.
  • Pigging pipelines, blowing drips, gauging tanks, and handling liquids
  • Construction methods
  • Ability to establish priorities and complete work assignments with limited supervision.
  • Experience in patrolling pipelines, performing leakage surveys, and locating/marking lines.
  • Experience in working with valves and dehydration equipment, flares, scrubbers, and separators.
  • Knowledge of cathodic protection/corrosion control activities including chemical injection systems.
  • Application of basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Application of formulas to estimate or calculate flow rates and volumes.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment including computers and related software.
  • Experience reading and interpreting maps, gps , drawings, plats, atlas pages, manuals, policies, procedures, dials, and gauges.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain logs and records.
  • Experience interacting and communicating effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 - 5 years of direct experience required.
  • Effectively work in a directed team environment that includes shared responsibilities; establish and maintain good working relationships with team members, landowners, contractors and customers; support team and company objectives and be willing to work in any and all areas of operations as requested to maintain team assets.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be highly motivated and possess a "Best in Class" vision.
  • Must be able to identify work priorities, meet deadlines and function with little or no supervision.
  • Communicate and/or exchange written and verbal information, instructions and Basic Computer Skills.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Required to work a rotating on-call schedule, subject to 24-hours a day callout.
