Communications Fellowship | Winter/Spring 2023

Feldman Strategies is hiring a communications fellow to join our team beginning January 2023.

Join a fast-moving, progressive communications firm that is working with leading labor unions, voting rights organizations, health care advocacy groups, gender and sexuality equity groups, and other progressive and political organizations to support our team. Fellow’s Role and Responsibilities

As a communications fellow on our team, you will have the unique opportunity to: 

  • Collaborate directly with a small team.

  • Work on assignments with real substance for a variety of different clients, ranging from labor unions, to voting rights organizations, to reproductive rights and justice organizations and more. 

  • Get hands-on experience and contribute to getting results for our clients by creating targeted media press lists, learning how to pitch stories to the press, media monitoring for clients and compiling press clips, and attending client meetings. 

  • Enhance your career development through mentorship from our firm’s principal, director, and other team members.

  • Learn internal project management skills including tracking clients’ press mentions, supporting with calendar coordination ahead of clients’ media interviews, and more. 

Candidate Qualifications

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, team player to join our team for the winter/spring of 2023. A strong candidate will meet the majority of the following qualifications:  

  • Has communication experience either in a firm setting, on a political or advocacy campaign, or with an organization (this includes internship experience).

  • Has a passion for communications and politics, and enjoys consuming and influencing media. 

  • Is self-motivated and can work independently.

  • Is willing to learn and ask questions.

  • Has strong writing and grammar skills.

  • Is able to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Thrives on delivering results and has the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comfortable working in a hybrid workplace: both remotely and in-person.

  • Political experience on a campaign or in an elected official’s office is a plus.

  • Currently majoring in or holds a degree in journalism, public relations, political communications, or political science is a plus. 

Compensation and Schedule  

  • We are ideally looking for a candidate who can work full-time (35-40 hours/week), but encourage candidates only available for part-time (20 hours/week) to apply. Please indicate your availability in your cover letter. 

  • Candidates should be a recent graduate, or a current junior or senior in college.

  • Candidates must be located in the Washington, DC area for the duration of the fellowship and able to travel to our office located in Metro Center, Downtown DC. We operate on a flexible hybrid remote/office policy. 

  • Fellows will be paid $16.50/hour. 

  • The fellowship will conclude on May 5, 2022, with the opportunity to extend.
