UCSF Health is seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead the
Laboratory or Pharmacy application workstream for its enterprise-wide relocation initiative.
This role is focused on application implementation and operational readiness,
not construction project management.
The Project Manager will lead the planning, coordination, execution, and activation of the
Central Laboratory relocation to the new 369 Oyster Point facility in South San Francisco.
The project includes the consolidation of laboratory services into a centralized, state-of-the-art facility designed to improve operational efficiency, automation, scalability, and diagnostic service quality.
The successful candidate will collaborate with executive leadership, laboratory operations, pharmacy teams, clinical stakeholders, Health IT, Epic teams, and external vendors to ensure successful implementation and transition.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Lead end-to-end planning and execution of the Lab or Pharmacy application workstream.
- Develop and manage project plans, timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
- Monitor project progress and ensure successful execution.
Epic Application Implementation
- Lead Epic Beaker (Laboratory) or
Willow (Pharmacy) implementation, optimization, and application build activities.
- Coordinate application configuration, testing, deployment, and operational readiness.
- Support workflow redesign and application optimization.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with:
- Laboratory Operations
- Pharmacy Operations
- Clinical stakeholders
- Health IT
- Infrastructure teams
- Equipment and automation vendors
- External implementation partners
Risk & Issue Management
- Identify project risks and dependencies.
- Develop mitigation and contingency plans.
- Resolve cross-functional issues impacting project delivery.
Budget & Governance
- Manage project budgets and resource allocation.
- Track schedules, project metrics, and financial performance.
- Provide executive-level status reporting and governance updates.
Change Management
- Lead organizational change management activities.
- Support transition planning and operational readiness.
- Ensure successful relocation with minimal disruption to clinical operations.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational standards.
- Support validation and readiness activities before go-live.
Required Qualifications
- 5–7 years of Project Management experience.
- Minimum 2 years of healthcare industry experience.
- Strong experience managing complex technology implementation projects.
- Experience leading cross-functional enterprise initiatives.
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, resources, and risks.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to develop contingency plans and resolve project challenges.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
