Overview:
The Senior Database Administrator participates primarily in new development projects as the technical lead in analyzing the architecture, performance and efficiency of database application systems before they are implemented in production. Has primary responsibility for planning and executing the definition, creation, and maintenance of the relational database management systems within the computing environments. The individual ensures data recovery, maintenance, data integrity, and space requirements for physical database are met through formulations and monitoring of policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management. Will participate and/or lead large complex projects utilizing RDBMS technologies and will demonstrate a high level of project management competency.
Experience and Skills:
1. 4 to 10 years of in-depth experience in the design, administration, programming, and support of RDBMS’s (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, DB2) in one or more computing environments
2. 5 years of experience as a DBA in one or more environments (e.g., with Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, or DB2)
3. Must have thorough understanding of the relational database model and solid theoretical knowledge of relational database techniques; ability to see the big picture and conceptualize and document creative solutions
4. Experience in designing, modeling, developing, and supporting large RDBMS’s
5. Must have extensive experience in logical and physical database design, hands-on data modeling techniques, and development methodology; physical schema design of table spaces, rollback segments, and data files
6. Must have exp:
a. Design of data extract, migration, and queuing facilities
b. Database normalization techniques
c. Knowledge of :
i. state-of-the-art database concepts/design/deployment,
ii. recovery techniques,
iii. performance monitoring and tuning
iv. structured Query Language,
v. relational database design techniques, and scripting
d. Ability to monitor and tune the database
e. Knowledge of server-side development issues surrounding triggers, stored procedures, and packages
7. Ability to write clear proposals and technical documents
8. Strong interpersonal skills at all levels of management and ability to motivate employees/teams to apply skills and techniques to solve dynamic problems; excellent teamwork skills
9. Proficiency in several RDBMS-specific middleware tools and utilities to support such activities as monitoring, database migration, and DDL management
10. Experience with cross-platform networking in a TCP/IP environment
11. Full knowledge of SQL, including programming and ways to optimize SQL code
12. Solid programming knowledge of more than one 3GL/4GL/OO4GL language
13. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline; Master’s degree is desirable; equivalent experience acceptable
