COBOL Migration Developer / Lead

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Migration Developer/Lead to support a large-scale Easytrieve to COBOL modernization initiative. The role involves analyzing Easytrieve programs, reports, file processing logic, DB2 access, sort operations, and converting them into maintainable COBOL applications while ensuring functional equivalence and production readiness.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze existing Easytrieve and Easytrieve Plus applications.
  
• Perform automated and manual conversion of Easytrieve programs to COBOL.
  
• Convert report-generation logic, control-break processing, totals, accumulators, and summary reporting.
  
• Convert file-processing logic involving sequential files, VSAM, GDGs, and DB2.
  
• Translate Easytrieve SORT, LOOKUP, TABLE, and report-writing features into COBOL equivalents.
  
• Remediate complex conversion issues not handled by automated tools.
  
• Create technical design documents and conversion specifications.
  
• Perform unit testing, integration testing, and output reconciliation.
  
• Compare source Easytrieve reports against converted COBOL outputs.
  
• Support production implementation and post-migration stabilization.
  

Required Skills

• Strong COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM experience.
  
• Hands-on Easytrieve / Easytrieve Plus development experience.
  
• Mainframe batch processing expertise.
  
• DFSORT / ICETOOL knowledge.
  
• Report-writing and control-break processing experience.
  
• File handling, data transformation, and data validation expertise.
  
• Debugging and performance tuning skills.
  
• Experience using IBM z/OS development tools.
  

Preferred Skills

• IBM Migration Utility (IMU) experience.
  
• Easytrieve migration projects.
  
• CA7, Control-M, or other scheduling tools.
  
• CICS knowledge.
  
• REXX scripting.
  
• DevOps/Git integration for mainframe modernization.
  
• Experience with automated code conversion tools.
  

Responsibilities During Migration

Discovery Phase

• Inventory Easytrieve programs and dependencies.
  
• Identify files, databases, reports, and scheduling requirements.
  
• Assess conversion complexity.
  

Conversion Phase

• Execute automated conversion.
  
• Perform manual remediation for complex logic.
  
• Convert report layouts and business rules.
  

Testing Phase

• Parallel execution of Easytrieve and COBOL versions.
  
• Validate outputs, totals, sorting, and control-break results.
  
• Resolve discrepancies.
  

Deployment Phase

• Production implementation support.
  
• Performance tuning and stabilization.
  

Qualifications

• 8+ years Mainframe Development experience.
  
• 3+ years Easytrieve development or migration experience.
  
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  
• Experience working in large-scale modernization programs.
