Short
Summary
This
is a senior-level Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer role. The candidate
will be the subject matter expert (SME) for mainframe operations at RRC.
They will manage, support, upgrade, secure, and troubleshoot the z/OS
environment, including CICS, IMS, JES2, OMVS, SMS, security (Top Secret), and
performance monitoring.
This
is not an applications developer role—it is a pure mainframe systems
programming & administration role.
Key
Responsibilities
1.
Mainframe System Administration
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert for
z/OS operating systems and system components.
- Install, configure, maintain, and test releases or
upgrades for z/OS, network components, and related software.
- Provide break/fix support, troubleshooting, root cause
analysis, and platform issue diagnostics.
- Support routine system administration: performance
monitoring, security monitoring, and system maintenance.
- Provide end-user support for assigned ISV products such
as BlueZone.
- Provide primary administration and end-user support for
SCLM.
2.
Mainframe Operations & Coordination
- Support mainframe data entry, control work processes,
and day-to-day operations within Texas DCS (Consolidated Data Center
Services).
- Coordinate with Application Development, Network
Administration, and Customer Support teams to ensure daily operational
stability.
- Provide support for mainframe Production Control jobs
and monthly Job Scheduling tasks.
- Act as technical lead or team member on projects
impacting z/OS platform.
3.
Performance & Capacity Management
- Identify, analyze, and resolve performance issues.
- Provide recommendations for capacity planning,
system tuning, and workload optimization.
- Manage system-wide performance using RMF, SMF, WLM.
- Provide recommendations for system parameters and
system libraries management.
4.
Security & Access Management
- Support and administer TSS (Top Secret Security)
for user provisioning and access control.
- Manage TLS, SSL, certificates, RSA keys, SFTP, FTPS
configurations.
5.
CICS, IMS & Job Scheduling
- Provide primary administrative support for CICS®
and IMS™ environments.
- Support and maintain JOBTRAC (automated job
scheduling).
- Provide assistance for CPM for JOBTRAC.
6.
Integration, Testing & Tools Support
- Support integration testing of new products and
compatibility with existing applications.
- Support VTAM Session Manager Software (VTAM/SWITCH).
- Provide guidance and support for toolsets including
SMP/E, VSAM, JCL, TSO, GRS.
7.
Optional/Preferred Data Integration
- Experience with Informatica PowerExchange
Administration for Change Data Capture (CDC) using IMS and VSAM is a
strong plus.

Work
Environment & Hours
- Work is 100% remote (telework).
- Normal hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CT
(excluding state holidays).
- Candidate may be required to work after hours,
weekends, or holidays (pre-approval required).
- Overtime is paid at the same hourly rate and must be
pre-approved.

(or similar).
- Headset if needed.
RRC
may provide equipment in certain cases; all equipment must be returned upon
contract completion.

Terms
- Contract Start: 12/15/2025
- Contract End: 08/31/2026
- Total hours: Up to 825
- Possible renewals: up to 3 years (1-year each)
- All background checks required by Texas law must be
passed.
