The Assistant Director leads a small team responsible for a range of operational delivery programs and projects for networks of Commonwealth Marine Reserves. The development and maintenance of key relationships with stakeholders, agencies and organisations for the management of those networks is a key focus.
The Assistant Director supports the work of the Director who is responsible for managing the networks of Commonwealth Marine Reserves.
Duties/Responsibilities:
*Provide leadership for a small team of staff across a range of programs and projects associated with finalisation, review and/or implementation of approved management plans for Commonwealth marine reserves.
*Implementation works include liaising with stakeholders, managing projects, providing advice and reports for effective delivery of management plan programs and outcomes.
*Undertake analysis and information gathering to develop high quality briefs, reports and submissions for both internal (including Branch, Division, Department Executive and the Minister) and external stakeholders.
*Manage complex projects, including project planning, budget preparation, procurement and project review and reporting.
*Provide and coordinate sound advice related to Commonwealth Marine Reserves.
Selection Criteria:
*Demonstrated competence to lead, supervise and manage a small team.
*Well developed level of experience and knowledge of marine reserve management operations (such as compliance, visitor management, indigenous and community engagement, and natural and cultural heritage management).
*Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms for a range of purposes with a proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse range of groups and stakeholders.
*Demonstrated ability to think strategically, gather and analyse information, develop and report on options and solutions.
*Demonstrated project management and organisational skills to effectively manage tasks of competing priority to ensure successful delivery of outcomes.
*Relevant tertiary qualifications and/ or level of experience in natural resource management.
