Update a freestyle project to a matrix project

Hi,

I have a freestyle project on jenkins and i would like to change it to a matrix project. I see i can do it if i change the config.xml but i would like to know if i can do it with the plugin dsl.
I have already try but i got an error : java.io.IOException: Expecting class hudson.model.FreeStyleProject but got class hudson.matrix.MatrixProject instead

any ideas ?

It's not possible to change the project type in Jenkins. I will change the Job DSL plugin to print an error and fail the build when trying to change the project type.
