AutoLocation location accuracy?

I have a number of profiles dependent on AutoLocation geofences. However, it seems like it often gets confused saying I've entered an area and left and area repeatedly even when I'm sitting on a couch.  So my profiles fluctuate between starting/exiting over-and-over.  I know I can set the cooldown of the profile but that doesn't really address the problem.  I've noticed this behavior in several locations so it's not just tied to a single area.  On a few occasions when I've gone to manage a geofence it indicates my "current location" on the map outside of the geofence (even though my "real current location" is within the geofence).  Since it happens at multiple locations what might be the cause?  Are there particular parameters that I could adjust to correct this behavior?

I have update type set to "high accuracy" and smallest displacement set to 25 within the location monitor.  The other options are all blank (default).

For the time being, I've switched my "home" profile to depend on my WIFI SSID rather than the geofence which is fine for my purposes, I suppose.  I just wonder if I should do the same for my other profiles that have WIFI access points.

Thanks,

Phil

I take it you are allowing android to search for WiFi points when WiFi is turned off, that always improves the results.

Also, you could try firing up a few apps that will gather location info when opened (eg maps or search etc) and watch the logs to see if autolocation piggy-backs these updates or not. You might find you jump right back inside your geofence afterwards.

The only way I've found to make this work better and not use any more battery is to make your geofence a bit bigger. Unfotunately this works better in some areas than others...

Phil,
Did you stop using GeoFences?  I think I'm seeing the same issue you are.

joaomgcd,
This is pretty frustrating. AutoLocation triggers Tasker tasks that are totally causing problems - I had to turn it off completely and go back to Tasker's native Network Location - which seems to work perfectly, no false triggering.

AutoLocation log shows frequent in/out of the fence even the the phone is not moving. I have both Location & Geofence turned on and set to Highly Accurate... and Wifi is always on. Much of the time these are occurring sitting in my office at home.  I live in the 5th largest city in the US - I get great GPS, Wifi, 4G/3G signals.

Can you help troubleshoot this?  thx

Aaron, sorry about that, unfortunately there's not much I can do about it :( I wish I could but I just get the data from Google and pass it on to Tasker. Did you try making your geofence a bit bigger?

I've tried to do that, but it's not always possible or ideal.  For instance there's different buildings I'm in at work and also when I'm outside that I use different Tasker profiles in  Ideally if I could limit the geofence to the exact location that would be perfect but in practice, not so much.  When I've viewed the geofence while in a geofence I sometimes see my current location jumping in and out of the geofence even though I'm stationary.  Right now, I think I'm going to use WiFi connected for most of my work-related profiles since each building has different access points, same names but different MACs.  I've done the same at my home.  There's still the outside of building I need to figure out, but at least I have most profiles taken care of.  I still hope that future versions of AutoLocation become more accurate since I still have plenty of profiles that depend on them.

I do think it is dependent on area, as my geofences work as expected. I have close to 20 set up since my job had me going to several sites all over. also, I experience days where Google seems funky and then so do these geofences. I do nothing and the next day it works. That had been my experience at least.
