Hi, I'm betting this is an issue with my setup but when I attempt to install autoremote on Windows 7 I get an error after running the setup.exe I downloaded from (http://goo.gl/82YJp) as follows:

Launching Application.
URLDownloadToCacheFile failed with HRESULT '-2146697208'

Hopefully I'm not doing something totally lame :-P

Many thanks

Hi, I think I may be explaining this badly. I can download that setup.exe but when I run the setup.exe I get the following error:
I've tried running it as admin with no luck also.

I've included the event log also this time.

This is only a guess, but could your Internet Explorer security settings be high, by any chance? I read that sometimes those settings could interfere in these kinds of apps.

Unfortunately not. I did some research myself and discovered that a small percentage of people have problems with clickonce. Some advice I've seen has involved the following:

Resolution:
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:
(1) In Internet Explorer, disable the Warn if changing between secure and not secure mode option.
(2) Make sure that the setup URL is not redirected between nonsecure (http) mode and secure (https) mode.
(3) Do not redirect the setup URL. Directly use the actual setup URL

Also tried disabling firewall and virus checker as well as the IE fix suggested above and multiple settings of IE including disabling all security settings I could.
I'm now wondering if this is to do with the fact that I am connected not by home broadband plus router, but rather via a mobile connection (Droid with wireless hotspot)

One other possible solution was for the developer to disable compatibility with windows 3.1 during "compile".

If you can suggest any other means of installing Autoremote it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, Michael.

I've made a non self-updating version for you, if you want.
You can download it here: http://goo.gl/544sX

The downside is, it will never be updated automatically, sorry.
Sorry that I can't help you further, but I am unable to replicate your situation.

Wow! Many thanks for going to all that bother :-)
You'll be pleased to hear that I eventually got it working  - had to use dropbox configuration as although I could send messages from pc  to Tablet, I couldn't from tablet to pc (it would appear to me that things get confused on a wireless tether/hotspot. One other issue I had (that took me over an hour to resolve!) was that my droid dropbox app was pin protected and that caused problems on the windows side (or so it would seem- all my problems vanished after that)

Anyway, now just got to get busy in Tasker and finish setting up event ghost and probably will need to configure Growl also.

Once again, many thanks for your time and effort

Regards, Michael
