Hi all,

Again, I have not sent out a monthly letter.  You probably don’t mind with all the other e-mail you receive.

We left Bastrop on July 4 to go to New Mexico.  We moved up our trip almost a week because of the sad news of the death of Wendy Jones from Peppers Art Gallery where I have my annual show for Old Timers in Magdalena, New Mexico.  We went to her memorial service on July 6 that was held in beautiful Water Canyon.  It was very difficult for Marky Bamert, her mother, to continue on with Old Timers, but it was one of Wendy’s favorite parts of running the gallery and good for Lilly, her daughter, as well.

Gene and I put up the show on July 9 and the show was on July 11 with my demo on July 12.
Visit my blog post of  July 19
to see photos and read about our adventures.

It is beautiful here in Angel Fire, New Mexico, our headquarters for the summer.  It has been cool and rainy .. which is what we wanted.  A nice change from the 100 degree F. days in Bastrop, Texas.

I have been sketching and painting, but not as much as I would like.  How can you stay so busy when you are on vacation?  We manage somehow.

If you don’t follow my blog, you can see photos of our trips and my paintings on Google’s Picasa at

My painting sales in Magdalena were to previous buyers and I would love to thank them.   They are collectors, now, right?

I encourage you to start an art collection if you haven’t.  You can buy prints, but they do not have the luminosity of originals and will not increase in value, if that is a consideration.  So, I recommend original art.  Original art will last more than our lifetimes.  Look how long the masters paintings have lasted and the surfaces, paints and all equipment is more archival and better than ever.

You should buy what you like. All art and beauty is in the eye of the beholder so if you like it, that is the most important quality.  We buy art that touches our hearts or reminds us of a time gone by.  If you like it, it will fit in your collection.

Our home is filled with art from South America, friends and a few pieces we bought from artists we didn’t know but were struck by the art piece itself.  They all flow together somehow.  We have a couple of abstract pieces by friends and some very detailed almost photographic pieces.  It all works.

Whatever medium, style or technique you like is just a click away now with the internet and on-line galleries.  Most artists guarantee their work if it doesn’t fit your expectations.  If you aren’t sure about an artist or gallery please check around.

If you want to go shopping please start off with my blog and the links along the right side of the page.  From their you will find links to so many different artists that are friends of friends or very well known.

If you have a favorite artist, let me know and I will put a link to their website on my blog.  I have been trying to spotlight an artist in every post on my blog.

Thanks for reading and please keep in touch.  You know how I like to talk art!

See you soon, I hope, in New Mexico or Texas.

Jo
