Hi there,
Newsletters have been few and far between. I don’t wish to fill your mailboxes with the same old thing. I have been working hard on my art and am excited. One of my favorite paintings was accepted into the Austin Pastel Society Annual Juried Members Exhibition for 2010. The exhibit will run from March 7 to May 2, at the Corridor of Art, 700 Lavaca, Austin, Texas. You are invited to the awards reception on March 21, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the same address. For the reception there is free parking in the garage at 8th and Guadalupe. You can enter the Corridor from the garage. The exhibit will have 50 paintings by 43 artists in a variety of styles and techniques. It is a wonderful show to see. I will send a reminder as the date grows near.
There is a series of small paintings on my website in a section called Jo’s Notions. (http://www.jocastilloart.com/josnotions.html) These small paintings are $50 or $100 depending on the size and shipping is free. It is a nice way to own an original painting for about as much as you would pay for a print. They are standard sizes that can be popped into a ready made frame. They make great gifts. You can safely purchase paintings on my website with Paypal and Visa and MasterCharge. I also have a gift shop with note cards, tile boxes and more with Cafepress. You can link to it on my website or blog. If you would like it to come in a nice frame, just let me know, price depends on the frame.
The more I paint, the better I become at interpreting the light and scenes that I love. Still life painting and plein air (out door) painting are my favorites as I get to really look at what I am painting and find all the wonderful color in the shadows. I see reflections and nuances that you don’t see at first glance. You can see how I work on the Demos page on my website (www.jocastilloart.com/jodemo.html) where there are short YouTube videos and more for you to see. I work mostly at home in my studio, call me and come by and visit and see some of my work.
I will be giving a demonstration at the (http://www.highlandartsguild.org/)Highlands Art Guild in the fall in Marble Falls, Texas. I learn so much when I teach and talk about art. Maybe I’ll see you there.
We will be traveling to Angel Fire, New Mexico, again this summer with the regular stop in (http://www.magdalena-nm.com/) Magdalena, New Mexico, for my annual show at the Old Timers Reunion. You can always get a peek at my work in Peppers Art Gallery in Magdalena.
