I have exciting news. I took the plunge into opening a studio/gallery in downtown historic Bastrop, Texas, where we claim permanent residence. It is a working studio where I can create my art and interact with the public and other artists. It is in the same building with the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild so the building is all "art" now. My studio is the first and largest space with a window to Main Street.
I have been looking for space downtown for a long time and keep putting it off. Always thinking that we travel too much and don't want to be tied down. This seems to work .. now or never, right?
The ribbon cutting reception is next Friday, April 23, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the ribbon cutting at 1:30 p.m. at 1009 Main Street. Refreshments will be served. If you are in the area stop by and see the nice space and look over my paintings in person.
Judy Hawes will help me out when I am traveling. She makes jewelry and watercolors which are for sale in the gallery as well.
The next day, Saturday April 24, is Yesterfest in Bastrop. It is a day of tradition. Visitors and vendors are asked to dress up in clothing from your favorite era in Bastrop. My studio will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is much to see and do that day with most of the activities on Main Street.
I plan another reception in June for the summer season. I will let you know more about that. I intend to have a sampling of Regina Burchett's pastels and prints. Our son, Larry, is a photographer and I will carry his photographs, too, making some into local postcards. I will offer limited classes.
Come by next Friday or Saturday. If you get to Bastrop another time, be sure and stop in. I should be painting! If the studio is not open, send me an e-mail or give me a call, I only live about 15 minutes away.
